Every team they have put together that realistically could have won the world series 03, 84 and 89 could score runs.

Honestly how is Pena any better that hoffpauir?
Oh, I don't think he is and better than teh Hoff. There are probably at least a dozen guys they could have gotten for no money who are as good as Pena. I think my point still stands, though.

the question is does your point justify 10 million clams for him? I don't think so. At this point I'd rather they start an unknown for nothing and save money for the future than pay 10 mil to Pena.

Knock it off. This board has enough problems without a dose of middle-age lechery.

And this is why the Cubs are the Cubs. Develop that player and then pay him the big $$ when he matures.

It is. Who would be considered the best homegrown Cub in the last 5 years? I bet I can name at least 2 off of every other team in the majors.

the irony is that a decade ago the consensus was that the Cubs had the best farm system in the league.

in their partial defense (kind of) most of those young guys didn't work out, so they wouldn't have helped the Cubs even if they hadn't given them away in bad trades. Patterson, Choi, Bobby Hill, Prior, that chubby pitcher they traded to the Brewers whose name started with Q, Brooks K. Did any prospects from the Cubs' systems of that era do well? Was Jon Garland the best? I'm sure I am missing someone.

ETA: Ruben Quevedo. That's who I was thinking of when I referenced the chubby pitcher. I kept wanting to call him Quezada

Obviously, he probably won't have a huge impact on the Cubs' fortunes next year, but I will always think of him fondly, if bittersweetly.

                    • Wow. Didn't think that would happen. I'm excited to have him back, he was always one of my favorites. Except that nasty goatee he had for years, but he appears to have shed that (unless that was simply to appease the Yankees, and he decides to grow it back now as a Cub).

                      Hooray for Kid K!

Honestly the best player to come from the cubs farm system in the past 5 years was THE RIOT. Castro looks to be pretty good and marmol been a solid pitcher

                        • While it's not as exciting as the return of Maddux was, Kid K will be good to have. I like it.

Did yall see that Riggins was promoted to pitching coach? I don't know what to think about it.

And we traded arguably our best prospect pitcher to get him. And Sam Fuld. (okay, I don't care about Fuld).
