All this talk of the lakers dominating the bulls is complete crap.

      the 86-97 showtime lakers started

      Kareem
      Worthy
      Rambis
      Byron Scott
      Magic

They brought in the spider, AC green and Mycal Thompson off the bench

      95-96
      Bulls
      started
      Longley
      Rodman
      Pippen
      Kerr
      Jordan

They brought kukoc, harper wennigton off the bench

When the Lakers are on Offense
Kareem v Longley - only a slight edge to Lakers remember Kareem was 40 in 86-87.
Worthy v Rodman/Pippen - Pippen and Rodman were both defensive stand outs and could play Worthy - even
Rambis v Pippen/Rodman - Pippen can double team someone else whenever he wants - edge to Bulls
      Scott v Kerr - even
Magic - Jordan - Jordan was defensive player of the year twice and a 9 time nba all defense. - slight edge to Bulls

      When Chicago is on offense

Here is the questiondD: Who does LA have to guard MJ? Do you put stiff legs Magic on him and Jordan just takes him to the hole? Do you put scott on him when we know full well how Michael Jordan dominated guards who were too small to stop him. Do you double team him and Let Kerr and Kukoc kill you with open jumpers? Not too mention this hypothetical series is being played to see who is the best ever. Jordan's competitiveness probably propels him to 35 PPg 12 rebounds 8 assists 4 steals and 2 blocks for the series. Then add on the fact that Riley isnt as good as a coach as the zen master and the bulls win this series in 6 games.

I remember watching playoff games on tape delay after the late news on the KSL (when it was the CBS affiliate). Good times then.

yes, it was always at night. Or on a saturday afternoon, as I recall. there was no cable tv back in those days, so it was considered off-programming.

The in-game graphics at the time were so cool. You would get the score on the bottom of the screen for each team, and sometimes the score would be in all white numbers, sometimes the score would be in the colors of each team. It looked like something you would see on an Atari game.

Solid post, except a few things, Scott was better than Kerr, and you double off of Rodman because he is absolutely anemic on offense.

Yeah, that's the comparison that caught me too. Scott was MUCH better than Kerr.

The problem with Rodman is that if you don't keep track of him, he'll kill you with rebounding.
At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

Was my post conjecture? Sure it was. How does one prove something that could never happen? The only comparison was the 92 finals when two similar teams played. Did the lakers have anyone who could guard .MJ? As for scott better than kerr you are rifgt. Tthe bulls would have played ron harper against scott (two very similar players) and bring kerr off the bench to play cooper

The Lakers from the Lakers Bulls final was a similar team to the Lakers of the 80s....5-8 years younger in the middle of their dynastic run? lol. ok.

I guess we are both good at conjecture. Btw since you are. Such the "authority" on this matter please give your analysis on these two teams. My guess is when you think about it its not as clear cut for the lakers a you think it is

                            here is my analysis.

the 80s Lakers would beat the Bulls.

Kareem is better than whomever the Bulls will put on him.
Magic is better than whomever the Bulls will put on him.
Thompson is better than whomever the Bulls will put on him.
Scott is not as good as MJ.
Worthy is better than whomever the Bulls will put on him.

Also, the Bulls teams of the late 80s are basically the same teams as the early 90s. So from that assumption, we can extrapolate that those late 80s Bulls, which didnt even make the Finals, would lose to the Lakers.

Please enjoy this wonderful breakdown I have provided for you. Should solve this debate pretty handily.

Lets see a 40 year old Kareem versus Late 20s Luc Longley.. Kareem at 40 is that much better than Longley. In the 91 finals Vlade Divac was better than the 40 year old Kareem.

Pippen on Worthy. Pippen takes him. in the 91 finals Worthy was 29 and was contained by Pippen. Magic was 32 in the 91 finals and Jordan guarded him fine. btw here are Jordan's stats for 91 series:

Jordan, who won his fifth consecutive scoring title and was voted league MVP during the regular season, was at his best in the Finals against the Los Angeles Lakers, averaging a series-high 31.2 points while shooting .558 from the field and .848 from the line. He also contributed 11.4 assists, 6.6 rebounds, 2.8 steals and 1.4 blocks per game to the Bulls' five-game series victory.
Remember this is a HYPOTHETICAL series between the 95 bulls and the 86 Lakers. The two best teams of their franchises. I am using "conjecture" because there is no way to have the two teams play. IMO the bulls 95 bulls would beat the 86 lakers in a 7 game series.
