It's fun to read the first page of this thread. I'd say Harper hasn't disappointed after the hype that was heaped upon him as he was playing JC ball.

That was a good day. Remember the pink bat?Originally posted by smokymountainrain View PostIt's fun to read the first page of this thread. I'd forgotten, but now that you mention it, yes I remember it well. Great day - one we'll likely tell our grandchildren about some day. I'll never forget that shot he hit to the opposite field. I think that was the moment I really understood we were watching something special.Originally posted by il Padrino Ute View PostThat was a good day. Remember the pink bat?I'm like LeBron James.

For the modern power hitter, there are three elements to a successful home-run celebration. First there's the pose, during which the hitter admires his work from the batter's box. Next, the bat flip. Finally, at long last, the trot, a saunter around the bases that can drag on longer than a commercial break.
Bryce Harper has mastered none of this. When he hits a homer, the Washington Nationals outfielder runs as if to avoid being tagged out. Sometimes, it's a hurried jog. Other times, an all-out sprint. No other hitter of his pedigree rounds the bases with less panache and more urgency after popping one over the wall.
Since breaking into the majors just over a year ago, Harper has posted an average home-run trot of 18.5 seconds, according to Tater Trot Tracker, a website devoted to timing home-run trots. That is the fastest of any hitter with at least nine home runs since the start of 2012.http://online.wsj.com/article/SB1000...134878174.htmlIn 2012, the two fastest trots of the season belonged to Harper. "I don't need to stand in the box and watch what I do," he said. "I'll let other people watch."

Bryce Harper: MLB slugger has high standards on and off the field
Harper is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints — also known as The Mormon Church — and with his membership comes a high level of commitment to his faith. Harper believes he can use his religion as a tool to influence others around him.
"I feel I can be a walking Book of Mormon and help people on the baseball field and off it," he said.Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!
For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.
Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."
