I still think the best bet right now is trading up to #2 with AK and #9 and taking back Brand's salary. The Jazz need to do something to get better. Adding a pick like that to a roster with Sap, Deron and Matthews and the Jazz are a pretty dang good young and talented team.

I would do that move in a heartbeat, especially since I think AK would have no interest in staying in Philly and we could get him back cheaper next year (though carrying Brand's contract we may not be able to afford anybody). So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

And take Favors at #2 right?Originally posted by Sizzle View PostI still think the best bet right now is trading up to #2 with AK and #9 and taking back Brand's salary. What happened to Brand, anyway? He was always mentioned as being on the cusp of greatness in LA, and it seems like he even made an allstar team or two. Was he injured in Philly?Originally posted by MarkGrace View PostI would do that move in a heartbeat, especially since I think AK would have no interest in staying in Philly and we could get him back cheaper next year (though carrying Brand's contract we may not be able to afford anybody).Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

I believe the exact same thing that happened to Memo in the Denver series...Originally posted by falafel View PostWhat happened to Brand, anyway? He was always mentioned as being on the cusp of greatness in LA, and it seems like he even made an allstar team or two. Was he injured in Philly?

Brands deal is awful. Having said that, of we can get a high level of play out of the numer two pick and get ANYTHING out of Brand, it's a bonus.Originally posted by MarkGrace View PostI would do that move in a heartbeat, especially since I think AK would have no interest in staying in Philly and we could get him back cheaper next year (though carrying Brand's contract we may not be able to afford anybody).
Besides, I figure the Jazz are always supposed to have an injured Duke PF on their roster...

Brand's deal is awful, but at minimum he's still a contributor (averaged 13/6 this last year), and in two years his K becomes a huge asset.Originally posted by Sizzle View PostBrands deal is awful. I think you bite the bullet on this one to have a shot at getting a guy like Favors. The downside to Favors is that he's 19, which puts him 6 years younger than Deron -- that's a huge gap, and for Deron go time is now.So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

Who can you draft or add to the team right now that gives you any chance to take advantage of this? Is there someone available that would turn the Jazz into contenders?Originally posted by MarkGrace View PostBrand's deal is awful, but at minimum he's still a contributor (averaged 13/6 this last year), and in two years his K becomes a huge asset.

That is a hard one to speculate on because it is difficult to project what impact it would have on role players to add another significant talent to the team. Landing Gasol or Garnett didn't just make Kobe and Pierce more effective, but everyone else on those teams. Much harder to get that effect out of a rookie, obviously, but if moving up in the draft meant the Jazz could land someone like Derrick Rose, Brook Lopez, or Tyreke Evans then it could significantly shift the direction of the team. Maybe Wall, Cousins, and Turner could make that kind of impact immediately. Favors won't unless he is willing to come in and really put forth the effort on the glass and defense while his offense develops...most young kids won't do that.Originally posted by Surfah View PostWho can you draft or add to the team right now that gives you any chance to take advantage of this? But moving AK's deal for Brand's means Boozer isn't getting a new contract. So will Deron be more pleased with the direction of the team with Brand and say Turner than with some other combination of what Boozer/AK could land you via trade or by remaining on the team and the 9th pick?

That's my point is asking that question. What direction is the team going and how does this impact Deron's free agency in a few years? I don't think there is anyone that turns them into a contender in that time frame.Originally posted by BGRTHNUMEGO View PostThat is a hard one to speculate on because it is difficult to project what impact it would have on role players to add another significant talent to the team. Where are things at with Boozer? I assume not much happening since all I read or hear is how he's chumming it up with DWade. Is he as good as gone? It's funny to hear people talk about him back here. The local sports radio was arguing for him to come to the Wizards and people were hyping his defense.

In the above scenario, no. To put yourself in the position to take on Brand's contract, you have to move Booz. If you keep Booz and can make a play into the top 5 (by using the Memphis pick, a future Jazz pick, the rights to Ante Tomic, etc.), thereby adding one of Turner/Johnson/Cousins, then I think it's possible.Originally posted by Surfah View PostWho can you draft or add to the team right now that gives you any chance to take advantage of this? Deron
Turner/Johnson
AK (who was actually really good last year)
Booz
Some role playing C
or...
Deron
Mathews
AK
Booz
Cousins (despite already stating that he's a tough fit in Utah)
I think either is an extremely good team. I guess the only difference if you lose Booz is putting Sap into those lineups, but I tend to think the team's ceiling isn't quite is high with Sap (though he had a far better showing against LA than Booz), and it would be tough to replace his punch off the bench. So Russell...what do you love about music? The other possibility with the #2 (and whatever else to make it work) pick is swapping it for Brook Lopez. The teams reportedly talked around the deadline, and were going to talk again when the Jazz found out where they'd be picking. #9 isn't attractive, but #2 could be.
Deron
Matthews
AK
Sap
Lopez
That's a pretty good squad as well. NJ is then guaranteed one of the top wings and one of the top bigs in the draft. So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.
