Burke with 1 turnover in 39 minutes. That puts him at 3 turnovers in his last 120+ minutes. And it was great to see him keep pumping the ball to Kanter for the jumper even after Kanter made a couple of bad plays.

Good point - Burke has played exceptionally well since returning. Jazz fans couldn't ask for a better start to his career.

Favors has made 67% of his FGs in the last 4 games. He hasn't gotten to the line as much (getting/converting easier shots?), but he's made 87% of his 4 FTAs/gm.

G-Time doing some nice stuff on the floor. He's 4th among 2-guards in assists per game (though a couple guys ahead of him, like Dragic, are ostensibly points playing the 2), and 2nd in rebounds per game. Defense also seems reasonably solid. But good night what happened to his shot? In his first 3 years combined he was right around 45% from the floor and 40% from 3 and this year his %'s are brutal. Obviously there are a couple of factors at play. Before Burke came back defenses were all over him since he was the only guy remotely capable of doing anything with the ball in his hands. Also, the NBA.com stats show a much higher % of pull up shots this year than last, which again is the natural consequence of being a primary option, and those are more difficult for most players. But even at that, damn, the kid just can't get much to fall. In that Houston game where he went 12/18 I was optimistic that with Burke in there he was moving toward more catch-and-shoot opportunities like previous years, but last night he just had another stinker shooting the ball (though, again, his all around game was pretty good).

Looks a bit like his college trajectory where he scorched the nets as a frosh and then struggle a bit more as a soph once he moved into a more dominant role.

I think everyone, from Zach Lowe on down to this thread, felt Derrick had a good basis to develop some two-man skills and would really benefit from playing with a better PG.

In 12 games without Burke his stats were: 47% FG, 60% FT, 14.5 points per 36, 11.0 rebounds per 36.
In 5 games with Burke playing >= 25 min: 62% FG, 85% FT, 17.9 points per 36, 10.7 rebounds per 36

Small group of games, but a positive trend.

Over the last five games, Burke is averaging 16.2 points, 5.0 assists, 3.6 rebounds and only 1.4 turnovers in 33 minutes per game. He's shooting just 40.8 percent from the field, but he's hitting 52.2 percent of his three-pointers. More importantly though, the Jazz have the league's seventh-best offensive efficiency in that span. Up until that point, Utah had the worst offense in the NBA.

From 30th to 7th? Very nice. Like D-Will, Trey has an ability to read when the team needs his scoring and when they need his fascilitating. Understanding his 2nd and 3rd options on plays doesn't hurt either.

As to his 2-pt shooting, people will quickly point to his height as the reason for his "struggles" but I've seen enough athleticism in him to know finishing at the rim will not be a problem for Trey going forward.

Had some very impressive finishes against big guys around the hoop last game (actually, not the Pacers game, the one before that), but the degree of difficulty is high. Going to have to learn quick pull ups and floaters in the lane like CP3. Just too hard to consistently challenge at the basket as a small point.

Howard didn't look the least bit interested in that game for some reason but yes, Trey made him and the other bigs look like terrible defenders. And how quickly did he recognize that Hibbert was guarding the basket the next game? He took and made 2 3's and another with his foot on the line in the first few minutes then he got everyone else involved. That was a fun quarter.

I don't disagree, but his floaters have looked ugly so far. First priority in the off-season.

I don't follow this thread or the Jazz particularly close. First, I'm amazed that the Jazz don't have a better record because some of the young pieces are coming along nicely -- Kanter, Favors, Burke. But as I've said before, Corbin could be the Jazz's management secret weapon in this tankapalooza. They have some good young players but are underachieving at the absolutely perfect time.

IMO, going .500 every year isn't much better than being perpetually bad. At least if you're perpetually bad, you may at some point land a LeBron James like the perpetually bad Cavs. The best thing to do is to be bad at just the right time -- like the Trailblazers back in 06-07 (who then screwed it up by not picking Durant) and the Spurs back in 1997.

But the thing about the Jazz is they're going to be able to add a guy like Wiggins or Parker to a roster that already has Favors, Kanter and Burke. Assuming they also fire Corbin's ass at the end of the season after he's served his tanking purpose, it seems like they may have a seriously contending team in a couple years.

I think it might take 2 more picks before playoff contention based upon how dominant the Western Conference is but I'm very interested to see who the next coach will be. My hope is that it is someone from a more modern coaching tree, perhaps a defensive-minded coach that doesn't believe fouling is playing defense.

I hate listening to game with Steve Brown more than any other sports broadcaster. Calling him horrible is an insult to awful broadcasters everywhere. I'd rather listen to Boom Goes the Dynamite guy than Brown.
