My guess is that Houston doesn't merely think Gasol > Jefferson, they think it's not close. I agree. Plus, Houston probably want's someone taller paired with Scola and likely value defense. So, Utah would have to sweeten the pot, if Houston is even interested in Jefferson.

Gasol wouldn't be paired with Scola. He is in the package with Lowry to get Gasol. So even if Gasol >>>>>> Jefferson, and even if McHale loves him as rumored, it seems like Jefferson + Scola combined with Jefferson's age advantage would seem valuable to Houston.Originally posted by Jacob View PostMy guess is that Houston doesn't merely think Gasol > Jefferson, they think it's not close. Was McHale in Minnesota when the KG trade brought Jefferson to Minny? I'm not sure if that means McHale likes him now or not.

A guy who averages 3 more assists than our starting PG (who btw only took over the lead on the team last night in APG)? A guy scoring 7 more points while dishing out those 3 more dimes per game? A guy 3 years younger and more capable of finishing at the rim? No thanks.Originally posted by MarkGrace View PostI would love to get Lowry."Either evolution or intelligent design can account for the athlete, but neither can account for the sports fan." - Robert Brault

The following "radar" charts (once again, using data from Synergy Sports) for each rookie big man show the percentile ranks of the players' respective PPP numbers in the following categories: Putbacks/O-Rebounding, Post Offense, Pick-and-Roll Offense, Pick-and-Roll Defense, and Post Defense.
As I mentioned in last week's rookie rankings, Kanter is excellent at showing against ball handlers who are coming off screens. He's also a decent post defender and does a decent job of finishing putbacks. Kanter struggles, however, when he posts up and when he catches the ball while rolling to the rim.
Kanter lacks finesse, and he hasn't yet learned the moves (or perhaps gained the coordination) to catch the ball and then take it to the basket. On the block, Kanter resorts to trying to bull his way to the rim, which leads to offensive fouls and other turnovers. When he rolls to the rim, Kanter seems to need an extra dribble to reach the hoop, and that extra bounce gives defenders time to bother Kanter's shots. He can improve by becoming more aware of help defenders and not taking an extra dribble when they're near; Kanter also needs to develop a better touch around the basket. This would allow him to shoot from a few steps farther back instead of always needing to dribble as close as possible to the rim.
The chart shows how great his PnR defense is. I'd be interested to see the charts on Jefferson and Millsap and Favors.Last edited by Jacob; 02-29-2012, 01:43 PM.

Sounds good for a kid that hasn't played in forever, didn't get training camp, and hasn't been able to get much practice in a compressed season.Originally posted by Jacob View Post[IMG]

Makes a Favors/Kanter front court seem more feasible, especially if Favors can be consistently aggressive in his post defense.

My eyeball test (scientific I know) tells me that Favors has been much better at foul control. Maybe that isn't accurate statistically but to me he seems to know when he can afford to take a hard foul and when not to. Perhaps that comes with knowing that Corbin will yank him if he gets one too quickly but perhaps he's learning that giving a full effort defensively doesn't require a hard foul.Originally posted by BGRTHNUMEGO View PostSounds good for a kid that hasn't played in forever, didn't get training camp, and hasn't been able to get much practice in a compressed season.

I have been saying this same exact scenario for a while, but I think the Jazz would have to throw in this years pick or a future 1st round for Houston to even think about it.Originally posted by BGRTHNUMEGO View PostThe Sam Smith rumor of an LA/Hou deal is Gasol to Houston with Lowry and Scola going to LA. He said Houston loves Dragic, thinks they need a more potent low post scoring threat to compliment Martin, and that is why they'd be willing to move Lowry even though he's playing so well. But I wonder what they'd be willing to give up if they could keep Scola.
Jefferson for Lowry, Thabeet, and Jordan Hill?
Thabeet is done. He's essentially a $5.2 M expiring deal at this point, with the team option for $6 M next year likely to be declined by whoever has him. But they'd still have to toss someone else to get the salaries closer. They don't really have any bad salaries that would allow Utah to use the Okur trade exception.
But Houston with a starting lineup of Jefferson, Scola, Parsons, Martin, and Dragic with Dalembert, Courtney Lee, Budinger, Patterson, and Terrence Williams off the bench would be a solid team. Gasol > Jefferson, but Al is younger and they keep Scola this way. For the Jazz, they'd get the PG they desperately need who is only 25 and under contract for 2 more years, they'd clear >$5 M off the books when they refuse Thabeet's option, and they add a young big on the bench.

Why in the Hell would you want to give consistent minutes to a player that can get to the rim and finish like that when you have the option of playing CJ Miles.Originally posted by MarkGrace View PostBurks highlights from Sac. That dime to CJ at about 1:26 is filthy.

Got to give CJ another 7,000 NBA minutes before deciding if he really does suck this bad or not.Originally posted by mpfunk View PostWhy in the Hell would you want to give consistent minutes to a player that can get to the rim and finish like that when you have the option of playing CJ Miles.

Jazz lineup with Watson, Burks, Favors is competing, they bring the Jazz back within 1 point, Burks playing his best floor game of the season - flawless defense, some ridiculous passes - and after he and Favors tie up Lowry giving the Jazz a chance to take the lead, Corbin inexplicably pulls Burks. Does Corbin understand he doesn't have to pull the bench players at the 5 minute mark of the 2nd quarter? That a coach has the freedom to actually leave guys in the game if they are playing well?

Gordon Eyore is a broken cog in a very dysfunctional machine right now. I have no idea what could possibly get him back on track. He just looks like he doesn't belong in the NBA and it doesn't make sense. Kevin Martin has out-'muscled' him twice tonight and every 50-50 ball goes the other way. He needs to snap out of this funk like now.
Yeah Corbin, I'd pull Burk's, too. He's probably really tired."Either evolution or intelligent design can account for the athlete, but neither can account for the sports fan." - Robert Brault
