Just checked the schedule, the Jazz won't play in Detroit this year.

C - Favors, Okur, Kanter*

* denotes inactive roster candidates, depending on injuries, performance

That's a 45 win team at best. Lots of pieces, but no center pieces. In other words, deep but mediocre. At least the young guys should get substantial playing time.

But it is not a deep team, it is a team filled largely with unproven players and proven bad players.

Add Hayward to the growing list of people that are very impressed with Kanter.

I wonder where Kanter would be (not in Utah probably) if he hadn't missed 2 years of games.

CJ Miles didn't sound as sold on Kanter which tells me I should be. Miles said Kanter has no lift but affects shots at the rim. He also joked that he doesn't talk to anyone else and always has his phone in his hand. I guess that beats a hot dog, you ass.

He was talking about Burks covering the court very easily, getting to his spots on offense and defense quickly.

I can't figure out why so many think Hayward is a SG. He's 6'8" and was a 4 in college. Seems like a prototypical SF to me.

That said, I tried to avoid watching the Jazz as much as possible last year, so I may be missing something.

He is a good ball handler and passer. His size gives him an advantage at the 2, but not at the 3.

And his biggest weakness on defense was his lack of strength. I know he's gained the standard off-season "10 lbs of muscle", but more minutes at the 2 means more minutes of being matched up against the likes of Eric Gordon, Monta Ellis, and Manu and less against Deng, James, Gerald Wallace, Danny Granger, and Paul Pierce.

But I also think you can stick any combination of Miles, Hayward, or Burks on the court and other than who they're guarding on defense I wouldn't really know or care which guy was playing SG and which was at SF.

I'm hearing all the right things so far; positive attitudes, players in shape (finally), physically stronger, etc. I'm also mildly happy that a certain wet blanket is no longer in the locker room. Sure, we desperately need his talent but these guys already seem more relaxed and cohesive than in years past. Should be fun to watch them develop. My expectations as far as wins and losses hasn't changed but I now feel we've got a few very nice pieces in place for the future.

For only the second time in the past decade I will not be a season ticket holder this year, but I do look forward to watching them each and every game from the comfort of my home.
