It was fun. Probably not worth the money, but being the only chance to watch NBA players we've had in a while and may have for a while, I think I'd do it again. And my son had a great time.Originally posted by MarkGrace View PostI could see it working out that way as well. Thanks for the report. Did you have a good time?I'm like LeBron James.

So are we going to pretend to care when the NBA comes back for 50 games in January? I don't think I'm going to be able to this year, some fake champ will be crowned because they get on a 10 game hot streak and earn home court. I'd rather they skip the whole season and get ready for 12-13Get confident, stupid

I will care. It's a no-brainer for me. I love the NBA in general and I'm excited for the Jazz roster. I'll take 50 games in a heartbeat if it's all I can get. Your point about a 50 game season sucking is well taken, but it's better than nothing.Originally posted by HuskyFreeNorthwest View PostSo are we going to pretend to care when the NBA comes back for 50 games in January? Same. I don't really care if we end up with some 50 game champion. Jazz are at the point where they have several kids that need to see game experience to really progress, and I'm excited to watch that start happening.Originally posted by smokymountainrain View PostI will care. I'll watch, but I will not care about wins or losses. I don't think they will mean anything. I guess it will be interesting that the championship won't have anything to do with LA, Boston or Miami since the superstar teams will not yet be off cruise control by the time the playoffs come.Originally posted by MarkGrace View PostSame. Agreed. You can't take anything away from last night. It was worse than most all-star games. Jimmer's game was far more entertaining and competitive IMO.Originally posted by smokymountainrain View PostI think you can tell very little, if anything, regarding skill level and potential impact a guy is going to have in real games, from a "game" like that where there is so little defense being played, but from a physical standpoint, Favors was a man among boys last night. The other big men were Kanter, Millsap, Tolliver, Jefferson and Evans. Favors was on completely different level in terms of size and athleticism. After seeing him (again, taking nothing from his actual play - which was very good, btw) last night and being reminded of his physical tools and obvious god-given ability, I wouldn't trade him straight up for Williams. In fact, I'm giddy knowing the Jazz were able to get him for Deron, to say nothing of the other pieces they got in the trade.
Burks was fun to watch, shot lights out and was the best player on the floor last night,(other than perhaps Favors and/or Steph Curry) but again, the game was useless in terms of determining future success. I was excited to see him play for the Jazz when he was drafted and last night did nothing to change my mind. I think he has a chance to be special.
Ultimately, IMO, Burks and Favors are the most important players on the team and I think Hayward and Kanter will be nice complimentary players to the two of them."Nobody listens to Turtle."-Turtlesigpic

I'm not convinced Jimmer's game was more entertaining, if for no other reason than there was so much more talent in the game last night (or just because I had much better seats for this game), but yes, Jimmer's game was much more competitive.Originally posted by Surfah View PostAgreed. I didn't think I would care until football was over. I was wrong. I was excited to see the young talent the Jazz have and how they develop.Originally posted by MarkGrace View PostI will care if the NBA comes back (and I really want it to). I can't speak for the collective "we.""Take it to the Bank"

Not to mention, the champ will have to play 20 more in the playoffs. We can't determine a real champ in only 70 games? When they were talking about trying to squeeze in a full 82 games, I thought it was a terrible idea. It's not to give us better basketball or a more true champ. It would only be to allow owners and players collect all possible revenues. Not interested in 3 games in 3 nights or more back to backs.Originally posted by smokymountainrain View PostI will care. I'd have no problem with them dropping 15 or so games from the regular season permanently and cutting the 1st round back to best of five. I don't think any other basketball league in the world has a 50 game regular season.

Right there with you on Favors, without a doubt. And though little could be taken from that game, it continues to be obvious that Burks has an elite combination of explosiveness and dexterity. His movements are extremely fluid and consistent. I've wondered about his low base when shooting from long range, but it appears to be extremely consistent. His shot looked great in that scrimmage. If his shot continues to improve, that combined with his nice mid-range feel and handle gives him great potential as a scorer in the NBA.Originally posted by smokymountainrain View PostUltimately, IMO, Burks and Favors are the most important players on the team and I think Hayward and Kanter will be nice complimentary players to the two of them.
But I still view Hayward as kind of the joining piece between Burks and Favors. So in my mind he ends up being the "more important" player ahead of Burks. I'm trying to think of a good example but can't think of it now. But I'm thinking along the lines of Pierce leading his team in scoring but Garnett doing everything else + scoring and being the clear MVP of that team. Or maybe Rip Hamilton leading his team in scoring, but Billups definitely being the more versatile and leading perimeter player. I think Hayward can be that great complimentary perimeter piece that can still score well, allowing him to play off of Favor's inside game and Burks' scoring mentality.
I think those three are really nice building blocks. So far they all seem to enjoy the game and are intent on putting in the work needed to get better. And there isn't a ton of overlap of their strengths. Wish we'd get to see how they fit together this season.

If they want to change the length of the season that is fine with me. If they want to pretend that a 50 game season with no training camps, no preseason, no summer leagues, is the same as the 82 game season that has decided the champion is silly to me. But I guess since they don't play 82 in Europe of China or the NBDL it makes sense.Originally posted by Jacob View PostYeah. I don't get why we should be upset with a 50 game season.
