Will he get better at not diving straight at the rim off the roll? Will he develop a go-to hook/slide shot that he can use across the lane while posting up?
I would hope he'd get better given how young he is, but who knows. It seems like a lot of teams just stand in front of him know waiting for this. He'll have to make an adjustment at some point.

Or if those are things that won't change, will you worry less about what his turnovers mean in terms of his long term offensive development knowing that he isn't committing very many while passing or handling the ball?
To me the biggest problem with the bulk of his TO's coming via charges is simply the fact that it leads to him having trouble managing his fouls. Kind of a double whammy.
So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

    • Not that he doesn't charge a lot but I also think he gets some reputation fouls called on him.

      • Apparently The UnderKanter's surgery was successful. If he has even a hint of discomfort in July I hope he chooses to skip the summer league.

What if, because of his injury, the Jazz aren't sure he'll be 100% to start the year, and sign both Sap and Al again?!
          That's Unpossible!

          • Bolerjack gave his predictions on the likelihood that the current Jazz free agents will be back with the team next year.

            Mo: 10%
            Al: 50%
            Sap: 60%
            Marv: 95% (Player option)
            Tins: 0%
            Wats: 0%
            Carroll: 70%

I realize that he knows next to nothing about closed door meetings but I think (hope) he's pretty close. Trying to look at it objectively from the Jazz perspective I'd put Al at about 40% and Carroll at about 80%. In that scenario (and they discussed this on the air) that means the Jazz would be "all in" on chasing a good starting PG for next year.

            • I think he's right in that Marv, DMC and Sap are the mostly likely to be back. I guess 50/50 sounds right for Al, but could be lower. I like his 10% on Mo, though I'm thinking that one could definitely be higher.

              • I hope we don't see more Mo next year. I didn't like that acquisition from the beginning.

He's been the best option since Deron but he's not engaged at all and shoots way too much. The Jazz know this and likely will not even put much effort into keeping him.

I didn't mind Devin Harris as much as some fans, but he's always hurt and I realize he wasn't a long term answer either.

                    • I believe that this summer is the only time the Jazz will have the cap space to sign a max or near max player, or add that kind of salary via trade (because Favors and Hayward are due big raises next year). So they absolutely have to make their move. I know that the market looks weak, but guys become available. Harden last year, for example (even though many of you thought either that the Jazz couldn't have made a comparable offer--of course they could have made a better offer than Martin--or that he wasn't worth the money).

Jeff Teague has had a pretty good year and is restricted.
Josh Smith wants to get paid and is unrestricted. He's worth pretty good money.
I'd pay some money to have Tyreke Evans on the team. I'm fine not having a true PG as long as one of them is not a midget. Evans, Hayward and Burks could all start the offense and would be a pretty spectacular defensive unit along with Favors and Kanter. Would be ne of the more athletic starting 5s in the league too.

For some reason, I think NOH wouldn't mind parting ways with Erig Gordon's max salary if they could get some quality in return.

Just don't see a splash in FA happening. I think they'll go into next year as close to the league minimum as possible.

I don't think I'd want to build around any of those guys. We should have been all over trying to get Harden when he was available.

The Jazz will try and get guys from teams that are dumping salary. They are unimaginative and feel good about where they're at, for some reason.

                          • Looks like the Jazz really want the Lakers to make the playoffs.

                            • The Jazz made the playoffs last year. If they don't make the playoffs this year, they will have taken a step back despite:

                              1. acquiring Mo, Foye, Marvin - all guys the Jazz touted when they were added to the team
                              2. The young core one year older and one more year of experience
                              3. Ty having an entire season, pre-season, training camp with the team (a common excuse last year was that Corbin didn't have these things)
                              4. Al and Sap, the team's top two players, in contract years
                              5. Corbin choosing to mostly sit the core youngsters in an effort win a maximum number of games
                              6. Other than the injury to Mo, the team has been mostly healthy

I'm not sure how even the most faithful Corbin/Jazz apologist can defend the regression that has taken place this season if the Jazz miss the playoffs.
                              I'm like LeBron James.

                              • FT numbers from a Portland fan:

The Lakers average 8.4 more free throw attempts per game than their opponents over the course of the season. The Jazz are nowhere close, ceding 1 free throw attempt per game to their opponents.

The last 10 games the Lakers have registered a +13.5 margin on free throw attempts per game. That's 161% of their norm, an increase of +5.1 free throw attempts per game over their opponent on average.

Over that same period the free throw (dis)advantage of the Jazz has dropped from -1.0 attempts per game to -4.7 attempts per game. That's 470% worse than what you'd predict from their season average, 3.7 fewer attempts per game than opponents.

The Jazz average 23 free throw attempts per game for the season. They have failed to reach that average in 9 out of their last 10 games. They have failed to reach their average free throw attempt margin in 7 of the last 10 games.

The Lakers have only been above their average of 27.8 free throws per game in 5 of the last 10 games. But that doesn't tell the whole story. They have attempted more free throws than their opponent in every one of those games, exceeding their average free throw attempt margin in 7 of the 10.

Based on their season average for foul shots made, L.A.'s increased free throw margin in the last 10 games has accounted for +3.5 points per game over their opponent on average. Their average margin of victory in that stretch has been 1.7 points per game.

For those who want to know how much the Golden State outing skewed the numbers, if you pare down Dwight Howard's 22 attempts against the Warriors to his season average of 9 free throws you still end up with the Lakers at a +12.2 margin per game in the last 10, 145% of their norm. This would account for +2.6 points per game on average against a margin of victory of 1.7.

Another fun fact: This year the Lakers have averaged 18.8% of their points from free throws. good for 4th in the league. During this 10-game stretch that number has risen to 21.6%. Extended through a season that new number would propel them to the #1 position, best in the league.

This year the Jazz have averaged 17.8% of their points from free throws, 10th in the league. During their playoff push that number has plummeted to 11.9%. Extended through the year that would leave them in 30th position, dead last in the NBA by a mile.

In other words, a team that was already very good at drawing points from the foul line has produced better than anyone during their playoff chase. In that same period the team competing with them--a team that was also really good at drawing points from the foul line--has dropped to a level below the worst teams in the league.
