The result of tonight's game is of little consequence (other than to bring into specific relief the purple & gold bus coming up fast in the rearview mirror). I am more interested in seeing the post-trade deadline rotations going forward. IMO had 3 starters not scored in an entire game two weeks ago, all 3 would be out there getting their minutes in the very next game.

I kept track of this just because I'm becoming freaking obsessed with how Al's presence on this team is circumventing anything positive that may ever happen.Originally posted by Blueintheface View PostNo Williams. No Foye. No Tinsley. Gotta say, Corbin seems to be making substitutions based upon flow for once.
But after Hayward 13 first half points (IIRC) Jefferson came back into the game. Over the next 6 minutes that Hayward and Al were on the court together (about 1:30 in the first and another 4:30 minutes in the 3rd quarter) Hayward had zero FGAs. After Jefferson sat his loafing butt on the bench, Hayward took 5 FGAs in the next 4 minutes, as well as drawing 3 fouls and dishing for 1 assist. Al being on the court completely destroys any flow the offense has and takes the ball out of the team's best player's hands. Is it a mystery to Corbin why guys show better intensity on defense when they are involved on offense?
Loved seeing Jefferson call off Favors so Al could switch onto KG, only to then back way into the paint when KG went to pick Carroll off of Pierce and Pierce nailed an easy jumper at one point. Good work, Cap.

Also, Demarre Carroll is not this team's best perimeter defender. Just like Harpring wasn't ever the team's best defender, no matter who much effort he appeared to put in on that end of the court.
Hayward should've been on Pierce for at least 1 or 2 of those late possessions, if for no other reason than to give Pierce a different look. And they definitely should've been switching any screen when Hayward's guy tried to set a pick on Carroll instead of having Carroll run around it.

http://tbt.blogs.nba.com/Gordon Hayward has played well for Utah since returning from a right shoulder sprain. He’s scored 40 points in his two games back after missing 10 straight contests. He had a game-high 23 in a loss to the Los Angeles Clippers on Saturday. He also has a big fan in Rivers. “Hayward has been one of my favorites for a while,” Rivers said. “The staff laughs and say I have a man crush. I just like the way he plays. He’s a bright kid with skill and IQ. He’s athletic. He’s getting better and better.”
So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

Your boy has been playing like a man possessed since returning. He pissed off Pierce and Lee last night, that's for sure. Too bad the team couldn't pull out the win, though it wasn't for a lack of effort on his part.
With your love of everything G-Hay I'm surprised you are not more vocal about your displeasure in Al Jefferson though. The guy obviously fears losing minutes by not running Corbin's stupid stand-and-watch offense and is a completely different player when playing with any other combination of 4 guys. He absolutely shines when given freedom to create.

G-Time ran out of gas last night. At one point he played 20+ minutes straight, which is usually about what he gets per game. ha.Originally posted by Blueintheface View PostYour boy has been playing like a man possessed since returning. The worst part is the frustration fouls. I don't mind a shot blocker getting an early foul but the frustration fouls he continues to rack up have to end. His interior defense is too important and he is letting guys like Garnett get in his head.Originally posted by MarkGrace View PostLast night was Favors 4th straight game with 5 fouls in only 20 per night.
On a side note, I love how Corbin is trying to cover up Al's piss-poor defense. Instead of bringing Al over to double Milsap's guy once the pass is made and rotating naturally, he has the weakside guy (G-Hay, Williams, Carroll) come to double from clear across the baseline. It is so embarrassing the way Corbin covers his ass."Either evolution or intelligent design can account for the athlete, but neither can account for the sports fan." - Robert Brault

The three was especially dumb but I'll take it as a sign that he is really trying to take that next step to become the go-to guy. Too bad his body just couldn't respond.Originally posted by cougjunkie View PostI thought Hayward took some terrible shots down the stretch and in OT. I'm not sure I understand entirely what you're saying, but the Jazz never doubled with a second big, even when Sloan was here. It's always done with a wing.Originally posted by Blueintheface View PostOn a side note, I love how Corbin is trying to cover up Al's piss-poor defense. So what? That doesn't make it right. The natural defensive rotation is to double the ball in the post, if the coach is choosing to double. Sloan rotated the wing with Boozer and Corbin's continued with Al. It's the wrong choice if the guy receiving the ball in the post is the primary scoring option. That's my argument. Do you disagree?Originally posted by MarkGrace View PostI'm not sure I understand entirely what you're saying, but the Jazz never doubled with a second big, even when Sloan was here.
