Maybe I should check my shorts.

I had tickets to tonight's game and passed them to a colleague after promising my wife we'd have FHE tonight. I got home to find my wife asleep and instead I watched the game anyway.

                Awesome and totally pathetic.

Why do they need another big? They did it just fine last year and have the same team this year. The trend this year has been small, not big, anyway, and the best team out West is the same team they beat last year.

That team is on cruise control. They'll turn it up when they have to.

                  • I can't believe how many nights already this year Miami has played and Wade and/or Bosh just choose not to put the effort in, so they are either on the court expending little energy or get extra minutes on the bench. But Spoelstra still rides James 40+ minutes on those nights to try to get a win. Is the grind going to be too much when the playoffs hit and Wade and Bosh finally decide to start playing?

Miami and OKC are going to be playing each other in the finals, I get that, but humor me, I'm a fan of one the other 28 teams playing for the regular season.

Anthony is averaging less than 10 min/game after playing 20/min per each of the last 2 years and Haslem's minutes have been in steady decline (20/min per) and he just isn't able to make the plays he once was. Bosh is having a career low in rebounds per as well. Now I get those diminished minutes are also intentional based on Spoelstra wanting to play small but last night was indicative of a real problem: 0 second chance points. Yes, I understand Miami prides itself on getting back and they are coached that way but other than the best player on the planet this team can't even rebound in their own area. That is a problem whether you are playing small or not.

Despite this the Heat are first in the East and built to play the Thunder so it really doesn't matter but I'm not the only one who thinks they could use some more interior play.

So I finally go around to looking this up, and I wasn't too far off. Jazz are 3-7 vs. the Hawks since the 07/08 season.

Hawks versatility on defense, being able to switch almost every screen, always gave the SnR heavy Jazz issues. Without looking it up, I'd also assume Atlanta was pretty heavy on 3pt attempts vs. Utah.

I sure hope the grind is too much on James.

Joe Johnson killed the Jazz while Josh Smith struggled. That's the Jazz recipe for success: lose by 3 instead of 2.

                              • Good article up on Grantland about the Pacers and Vogel. It talked about some of their defensive strategies, including guarding the SnR. But also mentioned how Vogel was just about to pull back on Paul George's role with the team with Granger out because he was struggling so much. But they stuck with him, knowing he was important to their team, and adjusted the offense to put him in better positions to succeed...rather than stick with the offense and go with other, less talented players or cutting George out of the schemes.

The result? George averaged 19 ppg, 7.6 rpg, and 4.1 apg last month. His shooting is down in January so far, but he's grabbing 10 rpg. He looked good last year, but the few times I've seen him this year he looks much more confident and active on the court. He's also getting 36 mpg. And yet I don't think he's better than Hayward. But Hayward is playing 26 mpg in Utah.

I really, really wish we could get a shift of perspective in the organization.
