I just was given tickets for next Friday's game against SAC as well so I will be able to compare and contrast Miller vs. Jimmer.

Why are we still hating on Corbin? Whatever he's doing is working. I'm willing to cut him some slack.

Not to make excuses for success but injuries and an untimely death have played a large role in the Jazz recent success. Favors/Kantor/Burks get more minutes due to unforseen circumstances, Corbin's least preferred rotation is the result. Al comes back rested and another injury at the 3 forces Corbin's hand again.

It's helped a lot that Harris has looked better but as much as I like the Earl-e-oop, Tinsley really has stepped his game up in his absence. He wouldn't be getting those minutes without the injury to Earl.

Incidentally, chatter here in UT hints at the notion that CJ's DNP at the trade deadline not on hay-fever/cold/bronchitis but his reaction to not being traded. Could just be two different radio personalities trying to dig up dirt on a player they aren't fond of but I did find the timing interesting. Burks get 31 min and a W.

Is he still playing CJ? Also, kanter only got 11 minutes last night.

                  • Thorpe does a really dumb redraft.

No. 3 pick: The Jazz select Enes Kanter
No. 3 pick in actual 2011 NBA draft: Enes Kanter

Considering the Jazz wanted immediate help and are loaded with power forwards, Kanter still seems like the right choice. The Jazz see a Kanter-Paul Millsap-Derrick Favors rotation down the road.

Kanter's bulk and lack of fluidity concern me in terms of his future, but we need to look only at Pekovic's rise to see how much better Kanter can get quickly. He has the talent and size to be a space-eater around the rim with the hands to make teams pay if they leave him.
No. 12 pick: The Jazz select Brandon Knight
No. 12 pick in actual 2011 NBA draft: Alec Burks

The Jazz and their fans love a focused, mature, hardworking player perhaps more than any other NBA city. Knight oozes with potential, lives to get better on the court and is a great fit into how Utah likes to play.
No. 15 pick: The Spurs select Alec Burks
No. 15 pick in actual 2011 NBA draft: Kawhi Leonard

The Spurs are always in need of athletes with upside, so Burks works perfectly here. He is also unlike any of their other shooting guards and ultimately would become a fine player to replace the minutes Manu Ginobili loses each year to injury.

Chad, GS has mentioned that they are trying to get their pick back from the Jazz. What, exactly, would that entail?

                      Chad Ford (1:50 PM)

They'd have to trade for it. If they Warriors are picking 1-7, they already keep their pick. If they don't, they can always offer the Jazz something for it in return. Sounds like they want it back. But the minute Lacob went public with that -- the price went way up. Kevin O'Connor isn't going to just give it away. Dumb move on the part of Lacob in my opinion. He's trying to give Warriors fans hope after a tough night, but terrible negotiating strategy.

                      • That pick doesn't become the Jazz's pick until after the draft lottery, right? So even assuming the Warriors finish the regular season with the 8th-worst overall record, if they land the right ping-ping balls, that pick is still theirs, right?

I ask this because I remember that Memphis owned the Cleveland lottery pick back when LBJ was drafted, but it was No. 1 protected. At the draft lottery, Jerry West was hoping Cleveland landed the No. 2 spot, because it then would have immediately belonged to Memphis.

I thought so. Which is why I'm pretty hesitant to get my hopes up about that pick, and why I'd really prefer the Jazz miss the playoffs to ensure they have at least one pick in the deepest draft since 2003.

That's right. Also, if the Warriors end up 7th after the regular season, the Jazz could still end up with the pick at 8 (or even 9) if one of the teams behind GS moves into the top 3 via the lottery, which has a 10 or so % chance of happening.

                              • Stats for Millsap, Jefferson, and Favors in games that they've played 30-39 minutes:

                                Jefferson: 20.5 ppg, 9.6 rpg, 51% FGs, 77% FTs (31 games)

                                Millsap: 17.7 ppg, 9.4 rpg, 49% FGs, 81% FTs (25 games)

                                Favors: 21.5 ppg, 14.0 rpg, 58% FGs, 90% FTs (2 games)

Favors has played between 30-39 minutes just twice this season. (He did play 41 minutes one game in January. Jefferson has 2 games of 40+ minutes, Millsap has 1). He played 38 minutes against Philly on 12/30 in the 3rd game of the year, and then 33 minutes against GS on 3/17. FWIW, when he played 41 minutes against Toronto he had 16 and 12.

Last year as a rookie he only had 2 games where he played 30+ minutes. He averaged 13 and 9.

I wish the Jazz staff and front office were as interested as me to see how good this kid could be if he played 30 mpg every game.
