This thread is much less active than last year. I can't believe that B12 expansion thread continues to get so many posts.

I think it is because there are so many games every week. I have tried to watch part of every game through January, it starts to seem like there is a game every night. I am enjoying the way the Jazz are playing and commenting on games/rumors/etc, it just feels like overload to me.Originally posted by Jacob View PostThis thread is much less active than last year. And last year at this time Sloan was quitting and Williams was being traded in one of the biggest trades in Jazz history. I am much more interested in this year's team.Originally posted by HuskyFreeNorthwest View PostI think it is because there are so many games every week. I disagree with most of these points. I think it's a crock when guys get in the game based on reputation or past accomplishments, though obviously it happens often. I agree with Dirk himself -- he is not an AS this year. :condom:Originally posted by Jacob View PostThat Utah radio personalities think it is a crime that Dirk freaking Nowitzki made the all star team ahead of Paul Millsap speaks volumes.
It's a shame that there are not enough spots on the all-star team for all good power forwards. I'd would be a nice ego boost for Paul if he made it. But over Dirk? So what if Dirk has had several bad games in this crazy season so far? We are not talking about a guy who didn't play or who is years past his prime. We are talking about the finals MVP. A finalist for league MVP last year. I don't think the all-star voting should be based solely on who has the highest PER through 25 games this year.
Question for random Utah sports personality: Everything else equal, would you trade Millsap for Dirk if you only got either of them for a single year and your object was to win as many games as possible? If you wouldn't. Just shut up. Nobody cares what you think. So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

But would you rather have Dirk or Paul for the rest of this year only if you were trying to win more games?Originally posted by MarkGrace View PostI disagree with most of these points. It depends on how you think an AS should be selected. If AS are simply chosen based on their stats and contributions for the first part of the season (we are only dealing with 1/4 of a full season here), then maybe Dirk shouldn't be an all star. If you are selecting the best players at the position, Dirk should be selected.Originally posted by MarkGrace View PostDirk. But that doesn't really have much to do with an AS selection.
I would agree that people shouldn't make it on past reputation. Others in the past have made it with no justifiable reason. But you apparently admit that Dirk is still better than Paul. That's a pretty good reason to put him on the AS team ahead of Paul. At least, IMHO. Usually I'd be agreeing with you about the general principal.
I also dislike the argument that X team has a great record, therefore they ought to have X (usually 2 or more) players on the AS team. Sometimes a team is good because they have a whole team, not because they have 2 or 3 all-stars (I'm looking at you Loul Deng, Roy Hibbert). Or maybe that is just proof that the east still stinks. Roy Hibbert and AS and Andrew Bynum not?

Thus far in the season I think Paul has been better. But your question is asking me to project over the remainder of the season, and over that period I think that (1) we've seen in the past that Paul usually wears down and (2) Dirk has a proven track record. So if I have to choose one to win me as many games as possible, then I go with Dirk (also think he could be an awesome pairing with Al given his shooting ability). But I think AS is meant to reward the guys that are having the best season up to the point when the teams are being selected, not based on who I think will have the best year in the end, or who had the better season the year prior. If a guy ends up tearing it up over the 2nd half, he can be on the all-NBA team -- like what happened to Deron in his 2nd season (I think). But you apparently admit that Dirk is still better than Paul.
