I wouldn't be upset with Donatas for the same reason - his video was very impressive as they all are, his was even more impressive. And I don't have a problem taking a risk on a guy who is so talented at his size at #12. if he's a lazy POS, so be it - the other guy you may have drafted probably wouldn't have been a game changer regardless.I'm like LeBron James.

I'm just not seeing it [re: Motiejunas, I finally figured out how to spell it]. I like my 7 footers to rebound and play defense. Does he?
I'll admit, there was some really nifty passing there and good offensive skills. But I want some defense in the post. Another positive on Donatas. From the Treviso workout video, he has really bulked up and looks good. That's a good sign that he's got a good work ethic. He's also only 20...a year younger than Vesely. But, Ford doesn't have him in the top 20 of his big board.
DX:ouch.Known as a lackadaisical shooter who can't rebound
While Motiejunas' average efforts boxing out and lackluster hustle could get better with age and coaching, he just doesn't have very good instincts for rebounding, making it tough to see just how much he can improve down the road in this area. He doesn't play with very much intensity, looking lackadaisical in his approach, rarely going out of his area for rebounds, and often going after loose balls with one hand. It's here where the Andrea Bargnani comparisons appear the most accurate. Those negatives are just too much for me. Lots of guys can score.Defensively, we see much of the same. It's not a matter of ability –Motiejunas' physical tools and timing are outstanding— you'll occasionally see him make a spectacular block or hedge a pick and roll wonderfully, shutting down the entire play. Rather, it seems to be a question of passion, intensity, and his overall mentality.
I see Motiejunas as a good offensive player. I see Biyombo as a game changing defensive player. Big difference. I think we'll see someone better available at 12.
Interesting trivia: The last 3 European U18 championships MVPs are in this draft - Valanciunas (2010), Kanter (2009), Motiejunas (2008). The NBA history of those MVPs is a mixed bag:
1998 Sani Bečirovič
2000 Tony Parker
2002 Erazem Lorbek
2004 Sergio RodrÃguez
2005 Dragan Labović
2006 Nicolas Batum
2007 Kosta KoufosLast edited by Jacob; 06-17-2011, 11:56 AM.

Oh, so you're interested in winning? I'm just trying to put a fun, entertaining style of play on the court in the right shades and hues for this locale.Originally posted by Jacob View PostI'm just not seeing it [re: Motiejunas, I finally figured out how to spell it]. Now that's 3 min of fun. If he can continue to work on his midrange game I'm telling you, this kid will have a complete NBA game and he will be an All-Star in no time. I believe he'll correct his fouling issues and become a franchise player the Jazz will continue to build around. Frankly, he and Gordon were the only reasons I kept watching the Jazz after the All-Star break.Originally posted by MarkGrace View Post"Either evolution or intelligent design can account for the athlete, but neither can account for the sports fan." - Robert Brault

I hope he's watched a lot of basketball this off-season, since that is apparently the best way to learn how to avoid fouling while actually playing the games.Originally posted by Blueintheface View PostNow that's 3 min of fun. Come on, Eyore.Originally posted by BGRTHNUMEGO View PostI hope he's watched a lot of basketball this off-season, since that is apparently the best way to learn how to avoid fouling while actually playing the games.
We're a few days from the draft and despite the apparent mediocrity prevalent in this group I'm remain optimistic. Even better, we've got a couple of young studs to build around. The next 2 years will be tough but I see light at the end of the tunnel if we can shore up defensively and bring in a reasonably efficient PG in this draft or through FA. I'm going to try and be patient while we rebuild. Besides, Derrick's just turning 20 and will learn to play defense with his feet instead of his hands and be just fine. I'm about as high on Favors and Hayward as any other Jazz fan I know. I've got no issues with them. I'm just still pissed at how Corbin handled Favors late in the year, including saying he couldn't play him more until he learned how to stop fouling. Genius.Originally posted by Blueintheface View PostCome on, Eyore.

Yeah, I include Ty in my "I will try to be patient" statement. That was beyond frustrating. Playing 22 min a game when his production was so high was bizarre. I remember a game in particular, well after being eliminated from playoff contention and Favors didn't play the 4th quarter of a tight game. I called my television set many awful names that night.Originally posted by BGRTHNUMEGO View PostI'm about as high on Favors and Hayward as any other Jazz fan I know. I've got no issues with them.
