Ford said in his Locke podcast that he thought MCW or Trey Burke could merit a pick around #10 in this draft, because each of them probably out performed their draft slot last year. Unfortunately the teams picking at 9, 10, and 11 all have PGs (Kemba, MCW, and Lawson). Sacramento is rumored to want a new PG, but I don't think Burke interests them when they have Thomas. If the Jazz didn't move up, I'd love to see them take Smart at 5, then trade Burke/#23 to move back into the lottery to get another prospects out of this draft, maybe Stauskus to finally get some shooting on the team.

Is Napier going to be sitting in there for a while? Seems like he's likely to be the last name called out of that list, especially if Warren continues to be impressive in his workouts.Joel Brigham @joelbrigham 6m
Green room: Wiggins, Parker, Exum, Vonleh, Gordon, Smart, McDermott, Stauskas, Ennis, Payton, Harris, Young, Warren, Nurkic, Napier, Hood.

On the radio today, the talk was that it would take the #5 pick, #23 pick, 2017 Warriors pick, Favors, and Alec Burks to get the first pick. That would be an insane trade to make. 5 assets for 1 player that isn't even proven. This isn't a Bron Bron caliber prospect that is being traded for.Originally posted by BGRTHNUMEGO View PostMore chatter that Utah is moving up to the top 2, now saying Favors and the #5 to Cleveland for the first pick.
I'd love it if Lindsey made a move like that, then took Wiggins instead of Parker.
If Favors is moved for a wing, then we might as well welcome Olynyk to Utah once Hayward can be dealt via sign-and-trade. Imagine the defensive prowess of a Kanter/Olynyk front court. As I lead this army, make room for mistakes and depression

That's way too much. I'd do it for Favors and the #5 like they were saying yesterday.
You don't go to the trouble to get all those picks to blow it all on one guy. Will donate kidney for B12 membership.

Cavs want their player, plain and simple. No team gives up that much. Favors and #5 and even the 23rd you could see, but all that? No way."Either evolution or intelligent design can account for the athlete, but neither can account for the sports fan." - Robert Brault
"Once I seen the trades go down and the other guys signed elsewhere," he said, "I knew it was my time now." - Derrick Favors

If Burke, 23 and 35 could get the Jazz to 9 or 10 for McDermott, I make that trade.Originally posted by BGRTHNUMEGO View PostFord said in his Locke podcast that he thought MCW or Trey Burke could merit a pick around #10 in this draft, because each of them probably out performed their draft slot last year. Having said that, I've been convinced, despite the fact that I know everybody is lying this time of year, that Smart will not be drafted by the Jazz.
Personally, I don't think Smart is too worried about Burke and Burks, rather he just wants to play for Boston or LAL at just a few dollars less than what the Jazz could give him. Sucks, but I can't say I blame him.I'm like LeBron James.

Blatt officially named Cavs coach. Euro coach has great relationship with all Euro players, right? Let Tomic be the centerpiece of a deal getting the #1 pick like Marc Gasol was in the deal for Pau.

I agree that it is a lot to give up. The only counter argument I'd make is that the Jazz have been in asset acquisition mode for a long time. You can acquire assets for a long time, but at some point, you've got to cash them in. How does a team build like this look:Originally posted by mpfunk View PostOn the radio today, the talk was that it would take the #5 pick, #23 pick, 2017 Warriors pick, Favors, and Alec Burks to get the first pick. PG: Trey Burke
SG: Gordon Hayward
SF: Jabari/Wiggins
PF: Marvin
C: Enes Kanter
Bench: Gobert
Obviously, I like this team a lot more if you're adding Favors into the mix and swapping out Kanter, or keeping #23 to add another young player (which I think would probably be enough to get the deal done).
Or, are you more comfortable with a team that looks like this:
PG: Trey Burke
SG: Alec Burks
SF: Hayward
PF: Favors
C: Kanter
Bench: Gobert, Aaron Gordon/Marcus Smart, Marvin
I'm not sure which lineup is going to be better in 2014/15. But I'd probably lean towards the first lineup being better moving forward. And if the Jazz don't have to give up their own 2015 pick, since they'll likely be adding another lottery player, the edge probably goes towards team one. IMO, the NBA is built around acquiring and having top level talent. I don't think the Jazz have done a bad job acquiring assets, and haven't had many opportunities to acquire a top level talent with those assets. I think they have the chance to do that now, and should probably look to cash in and really build around that talent, even if it costs them some good pieces to do that. They've got a lot of supporting pieces, but I don't see any piece that isn't untouchable or a true core foundation building block.
I do wish that the Jazz had gotten an extension done with G-Time last year, because I think having him available as a trade chip (and not in a sign and trade) would get a deal done a lot easier. Especially since there is question as to whether or not he wants to be in Utah long term.

BGR is saying many are projecting Parker for Melo-like production. Would you give up all that if you knew Parker would be more or less the equivalent of Melo (or PP)?Originally posted by Sizzle View PostNo, but age becomes a factor at this point in Carmelo's career. Yes, I would have made that trade for a young Carmelo.Originally posted by smokymountainrain View PostThe question is, do you make that trade for a young Carmelo?
There isn't a Durant in this draft.
In terms of a Durant in this draft, you're probably right, though so much of it depends on how good Wiggins ends up being. I think Parker has a lower ceiling than Wiggins, but I think he has a higher floor, at least from an offensive standpoint. Jabari comps come in from Paul Pierce, to Carmelo, and while I don't think alone those guys are going to get you a title, you need to have one star in order to get star #2.
It's going to be an interesting week, that's for sure. Ford's ranking of the top 25 prospects of the past 15 years was interesting. The names around the three guys in the draft that he used are Carmelo, Jay Williams, Derrick Rose, Blake Griffin, and Ricky Rubio. Do you swing to pick up a player like that? A guy who in his own draft class would likely be the clear #1? Probably, but to your point, it isn't a sure thing by any stretch of the imagination.
