  • That was a 400 Final! Unbelievable finish.

That dude looked absolutely tapped at 200M. I legit was wondering if he was going to stop running and pull up with a hammy. Unreal finish.
Prepare to put mustard on those words, for you will soon be consuming them, along with this slice of humble pie that comes direct from the oven of shame set at gas mark “egg on your face”! -- Moss

I ran the 400M (like 10 times as a freshman) and in the biggest meet I had the outside lane. I kept the lead until the final 100 when I just went into power-saving mode and came in like 6th. That finish is brutal! But I'm still surprised to see how many looked legitimately gassed when Cole Hocker finds a 6th gear in the last 30.

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

              • I loved the part early in the race with Rooks was well back in the pack when the announcer noted that just a year ago Rooks was winning the NCAA steeplechase for BYU. Then he fell fully to the back of the pack. But he had a plan and will two laps to go started moving up in the pack. It was so awesome to watch.

That last 15M between Rooks and the 3rd place guy, Rooks' face looked like he was giving birth. I think he didn't have another stride in him.

                      • Confession: When Girma fell over that hurdle and sprawled out in front of the other runners, I was hoping he would take out the other race contenders.

The other American, Wilkinson, ran 8:16:82 in heat 2, a full 8 seconds faster than Rooks, but it was only 6th best in his heat so he's out.

Bronze medal times from the last 3 Olympics:

                          2020: 8:11:45
                          2016: 8:11:52
                          2012: 8:19:73

Rook's PR time, which he set back in May, is 8:15:08 so he's capable of getting on the medal podium but it would require the race of his life as at least 6 of the finalists have run faster times this year. I hope he has the race of his life!
8:06.41 - He had the race of his life! As stated, I thought he had a shot at bronze but never thought silver would be a possibility. Amazing.
