    Since I don't bet games I am no longer going to see what the point spread is for the Cougars or Jazz. It takes the excitement out of the game knowing my team is going to losel;

    • Elijah played much better against Pacific. He was (mostly) under control, played pretty good defense, etc. Kind of surprised that they had him playing the 4 for much of his time on the court. Seemed more effective for his game since there were fewer defenders manning the paint with BYU's small ball lineup.

        You can see the untapped potential in guys like Yoeli and Elijah but dammit it's frustrating to watch them play sometimes.

        Btw, Mika won't be sticking around if he continues to dominate in conference play. Emery has regressed and TGHG is just too erratic.

          Losing Davis and Aytes at about the same time hammered our offense.

            What happened to Aytes? I saw him on the sideline in street clothes but hadn't heard anything.

                • From the last game it looks like a healthy Bryant can help the team.

                    Minimum 15 games left. Likely more like 17-18. He needs to average about 11 for GM to win. hmmm. I'm going to handicap this at 2:1 for GM.

                      There is still a chance!

                        Indeed. Injuries really hurt this team. I think with no injuries, we would have been a tourney team.

                          This is one season where maybe the fans should follow the old "one game at a time" mantra. It's really hard to win on the road at a top 20 team. At least they bounced back with a blowout win. USF is a decent team coming in this Thursday. If BYU has a good performance with Bryant continuing to play well it will be a good sign. I think Emery and Haws will get more consistent. In college basketball it's not over until you're out of the conference tournament. I think this team can still do some good things.

                          • Our defense is not as bad as some fans would lead us to believe.

                            BYU is 38th (of 351 teams) in effective FG% defense at 45.7%. They allowed 48.3% last season and 49.6% the year before.

                              It is getting better, that much is true. It was really bad early in the year and IMO was inflated a bit by some really bad shooting performances of our opponents. Since UVU the kids are starting to figure out the rotations and improving. Nick accepting his role as a stopper helped and the freshman are getting more experience.

                              There has been some self-inflicted pain with this team but I am getting more and more optimistic. I think we beat St Mary's at home, only lose 1 more WCC game outside of Gonzaga and then get a chance to redeem the year in the WCC semis with a neutral floor matchup with St Mary's. As Elijah Bryant finds his groove and our freshman continue to improve I think we have more room to grow than the Gaels.

                              Next year should be the funnest year since Jimmer graduated.

                              • I was more impressed with Mika's play Saturday than I was with his 28 points against St. Mary. It seemed to me he didn't look to shoot each time the ball came in, but passed to an open man or repositioned himself to get a pass back in at a better spot.

                                Good for him but sad for us I think he leaves after his Jr. year.
