If you really want to see bad defense you should have watched Utah's loss to USF. They were letting USF have open threes all over the place, of which they kept making one after the other.
WCC teams in general I think are usually better than their numbers (rpi) because most of them don't schedule like they give a crap about it, and the rpi is mostly about SOS. MWC teams historically have scheduled with a lot more awareness of what their rpi is going to look like -- thus the annual accusation they'd get from the media about their "inflated" rpi's.
Case in point: Long Beach State vs. San Francisco.
USF's current rpi: 156
LBS current rpi: 160
USF's record: 10-4
LBS' record: 3-11
These teams have almost the same rpi despite vastly different W-L records. Here is the Long Beach State non-conference schedule. I've noted their only wins. The only teams USF has played that aren't awful are the three they faced in that tournament in Hawaii where they beat Utah (Utah, Illinois State, and SDSU) Now no one is saying WCC teams need to go to the extreme LBSU does, but let's get real. There is no reason to underschedule as badly as most of them do. The point is, the rpi is mostly about SOS, and most WCC teams could have a decent rpi if they scheduled a little better.

Not surprising. Doesn't change my thoughts on the game however. We can steal a win here if everyone keeps their head in the game. I'm sure UVU was supposed to lose by more than that. Things happen.Originally posted by byu71 View PostSMC is a 10 point favorite. I thought it would be around 4-5

Disagree. Really stupid thing for a player to do on social media right before a big game. Let your play do the talking.Originally posted by BlueK View PostSo what. Nick says what all BYU fans are already thinking. Will have zero impact.
Also shows that he does not understand the meaning of the word "literally".

I'm trying to figure out what the size of the gym has to do with anything.
When all of those teams go to Hawaii to play their tourney that Chaminade hosts, no one. Literally NO ONE (Ha!) is talking about the fact that it is a high school sized gym they are playing in.
If the team is good, they are good. If they aren't, they aren't. The size of the gym won't change any of that. Gym size smack is for losers who don't get to use scoreboard smack.

Scoreboard smack: BYU has beaten SMC 4 of the last 6 games.Originally posted by Eddie View PostI'm trying to figure out what the size of the gym has to do with anything.

The reason this Nick thing is funny is because it's mostly only whining BYU fans smacking their own school who like to bring up the gym size thing over and over: "we suck because we're stuck in a league with small gyms!" Or the variation of, "how did we lose to that school that has a small gym! I'd rather lose to a Wyoming team with a large empty gym!" Other than a few Utah fans picking that up to bash us with also, I haven't heard anyone in any other fanbase ever talk about or care about gym size.Last edited by BlueK; 01-05-2017, 01:20 PM.

ungracious for sure, immature probably, but it's not going to make SMC want to beat us any more than they wanted to already. No chance they were going to overlook us. The fans were already going to be riled up. This is our rival in the WCC. Gonzaga we have a healthy respect for and want to beat, but SMC is the team most BYU fans can't stand.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostDisagree. It just struck me how crazy Wyoming's gym is. I guess that's what you build when your state is rich with tax from oil companies. It's a miracle they could ever fill it once. I wonder how many schools could fill a basketball stadium that requires attendance from 50% of the entire population in a 45 mile radius. That would be like BYU getting 200k people to a basketball game. What idiot decided construction of that thing was a good idea?Originally posted by BlueK View PostScoreboard smack: BYU has beaten SMC 4 of the last 6 games.

In the early 80s when Wyoming built it they were really good and they would actually fill all the seats. The school that dropped the ball on building a new house was Gonzaga. What the heck were they thinking building a new place with only 6,000 seats???? They could easily pack a 15,000 seat arena every game.Originally posted by jay santos View PostIt just struck me how crazy Wyoming's gym is. Tonight's game will be interesting and I regret not being able to attend. I usually head up to Moraga for these but not this year. For last year's game I sat on a folding chair along the baseline, leaning back against the wall, something you can't do at the MC!
If Mika and Childs are in foul trouble in the first half, BYU will lose. If they can avoid this, I look for the upset.
