I think it may get dicey if too many weird things happen in tournaments over the next few days. We don't need any Miami's or Texas A&M's or other teams currently outside of the bubble suddenly playing like world beaters in their tournaments. Our numbers are great in some areas, but unfortunately it's mostly in those that are not official criteria like our KenPom ranking. The rpi is ok, but we're still pretty thin in the quality wins department. It would have helped us more to have beaten St. Mary's in the semis instead of Portland. We could also really use some help from teams still playing like Stanford and UMass making nice runs in their tournaments. Having teams like Long Beach and USU winning games in their tournaments and establishing themselves in the top 100 would help me feel more confident about our situation.

      • I was listening to a few minutes of a college basketball show on my satellite radio. It was funny hearing the hosts talk about Murray State and how they think they won't be in but they should and how sad that is. Then one host asked the other if they'd put them in ahead of BYU and he said yes. Then the other guy admitted he hasn't even looked at their numbers and how they compare, but Murray State passes the eye test and BYU didn't play well last night. But again, he admits he didn't watch the game. Great reasoning there.

It's amazing that earlier in the season I wanted Dobby to find a seat at the end of the bench. I was done with him. I wanted Toolson, Nixon, or even Ellis to get his minutes.

Then something changed. Dobby got hot or something. And when he went down yesterday, I was sad because you never want to see anyone get injured, but I also feel like BYU can't afford to lose him right now. The fact that Winder's future seems very questionable makes it even more critical that Dobby isn't seriously injured.

It would be nice for Colorado State to lose to Fresno in their first MWC tourney game. Combine that with Utah State beating Wyoming (pushing Wyoming to 100+) and CSU's resume doesn't look nearly as strong. Utah State could then knock off Boise but then lose in the tourney final to SDSU (so as not to steal a bid). I think that's the best possible MWC result for BYU's at large chances/seeding.

As to the plausibility of this possibility:

CSU won comfortably against Fresno in both their regular season meetings
            USU split with Wyoming
            USU split with BSU

Not buying it. Admissions standards have been going up for decades, but we have had the likes of miss Wonnacott in the not too distant past. It has to be something else.

Knock it off. This board has enough problems without a dose of middle-age lechery.

We were all thinking it. You said it.

                    • From listening and reading some of the national commentary on BYU right now, I'd say the vast majority is pretty positive -- more so than from much of our own fanbase. Even some who have been critical in the past, and even during the Jimmer years, are saying some nice things this year. Interesting.

It's kind of hard to dismiss the #2 offense in the country that played against the 69th Ranked schedule. Everyone has known we had defensive issues. But with the vast improvement on defense over the last 10 games (and that huge win @ Gonzaga), people are ready to jump on board. I think we make it in no matter what happens in other conference tournaments.

I think KC's triple-double stat is a gimmick produced by a unique combination of our pace and team make-up. But it's cool and has produced a lot of buzz for the team and KC.

                          • Good news on the bubble front. Illinois is getting creamed by Michigan. Also, Utah will hopefully take care of bidness tonight against Stanford.

There is no doubt that if we played an average to below average pace that KC would not have the same numbers. Duh. However, KC's all around game is impressive at any pace.

wapiti's comment is super weird. there have been hundreds (thousands?) of teams over the years that have played at or about BYU's pace and put up similar offensive numbers over a season, yet no other player has ever produced six triple doubles in a season.
