Providing some hope:
http://www.cbssports.com/collegebask...e-an-ncaa-teamBYU passes eye test in WCC final, despite loss to Zags: The Cougars' 91-75 loss Tuesday prevented a second straight win over Gonzaga (BYU beat Gonzaga in a 73-70 on March 1), but the Cougars were competitive for nearly 40 minutes. BYU looks capable of being a tough out in the NCAA Tournament because of its offense, fueled by three big-time scorers: Kyle Collinsworth, Tyler Haws and Chase Fischer. They're a nightmare for any team to defend, but other than that victory in Spokane, BYU doesn't have many quality wins. However, if there aren't many bids stolen by teams coming from nowhere to win conference tournaments, the Cougars have an excellence chance of hearing their name called on Selection Sunday.
http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/bubblewatchBYU [25-9 (13-5), RPI: 43, SOS: 93] We've detailed BYU's story in somewhat intensive detail these past few weeks, but let's do a quick recap. As of two weeks ago, the Cougars were one of the strangest bubble teams in recent memory. BYU has the leading scorer in its school history in Tyler Haws, who passed Jimmer Fredette in late February, a player who tied the NCAA's all-time single-season triple-double record in Kyle Collinsworth, and one of the nation's 10 most efficient offenses. Analytically, the Cougars rated out as a top-30 team. Bracketologically, BYU was a non-starter. How did this come to be? All of the Cougars' losses came by single digits and left them bereft of anything resembling a quality win. On Feb. 28, they got that win and then some at Gonzaga. At the WCC tournament, they avoided an upset to Santa Clara and then cruised past Portland, setting up Tuesday's title clash with Gonzaga. BYU lost that game, 91-75, when the Zags pulled away down the stretch. That should just about catch us up. What happens next? An NCAA tournament bid ... probably. BYU's resume remains pretty bubbly, but losing to the Zags on a neutral court doesn't hurt, and the win in Spokane erased the "but who have they beaten?" cudgel that would no doubt be used against them in the committee's deliberations. This is a good team with good players playing good basketball. There are no guarantees, but we think the committee will agree.
Not a big fan of their underselling of Collinsworth's record (he didn't just tie the single-season record), though."I think it was King Benjamin who said 'you sorry ass shitbags who have no skills that the market values also have an obligation to have the attitude that if one day you do in fact win the PowerBall Lottery that you will then impart of your substance to those without.'"

Pellegrino:
I remember watching Ainge's freshman season, when the Cougs played UCLA tough but lost to Edgar Jones and UNR badly. Alan Taylor, who later became my friend, bit Edgar. However I don't remember Ainge sitting out injured or any of the other starters.
Is the increased physicality the is contributing to the severe number of injuries? UNLV lost Rashad Vaughn their all everything player and their second best player. I know that is anecdotal, and perhaps in light of last year's football team's injuries I seem sensitive to it."Guitar groups are on their way out, Mr Epstein."
Upon rejecting the Beatles, Dick Rowe told Brian Epstein of the January 1, 1962 audition for Decca, which signed Brian Poole and the Tremeloes instead.

And don't forget, USU's AD is on the committee and will almost certainly be lobbying for a fellow team from the state of Utah.Originally posted by imanihonjin View PostI was in the camp to that this was a 50/50 proposition, then I remembered that Holmoe is on the committee. I agree. BYU has the NCAA triple double winner and a scorer who broke the records of two of the most beloved college basketball consensus POY winners on the same team. The committee wants BYU. They are fun. They draw well wherever they go. BYU only needed to give the committee a reason to select them. The win at Gonzaga did that. That one win gave more legitimacy to the close losses and supports the theories that BYU is vastly improved and was hampered by injuries when they had the bad losses. What was lost last night was perhaps a chance to move the seed as high as 8. I thought if BYU won they would get an 8 seed but now I am expecting an 11 or 12. If we competed well and lost the game in the last minute I thought we would get a 10 but now I think an 11 would be very favorable.Originally posted by HuskyFreeNorthwest View PostSomeone will push the 3 hour occupied button and there will be little sweat, BYU gets in.
I do think we have a shot to win a game even if we play a 5. We are a solid team. The last two times we made the NCAA since Jimmer, I expected us to get dumptrucked - last year was due to KyleC's injury. This year I believe we can, and I think we will, play with 5 and 6 seeds.Do Your Damnedest In An Ostentatious Manner All The Time!

I'm choosing to mostly ignore your fatuity here and instead overwhelm you with so much data that you'll maybe, just maybe, realize that you have reams to read on this subject before you can contribute meaningfully to any conversation on this topic.

BYU is appropriately on the bubble right now. Right now, they should be in the NCAA tournament. However, as the power conferences complete their tournaments, it may be necessarily to move BYU out based on the results on those tournaments.Originally posted by Blueintheface View PostOf course BYU is in, you ninnies. As I lead this army, make room for mistakes and depression

Please....there are 2 power conferences this year. Big 12 and ACC. PAC has 3 decent teams this year and 9 lumps. That does not a power conference make. (1. UA 2. UO 3. UofU)Originally posted by mpfunk View PostBYU is appropriately on the bubble right now. Right now, they should be in the NCAA tournament. There is a boatload of bad basketball to be played.

Right now it looks like three teams from the MW, BSU CSU and SDSU, will be in. If one of those three doesn't win the tournament that could take the spot from BYU.Originally posted by mpfunk View PostBYU is appropriately on the bubble right now. I'm hoping for a CSU early exit and that Boise wins the tournament. CSU is the most likely to drop out of the field if they lose early. I also would like to meet them in a first four game if we are consigned to that game.Originally posted by RC Vikings View PostRight now it looks like three teams from the MW, BSU CSU and SDSU, will be in.
