Kind of like Malone helped Stockton get his record assists. However, he didn't have much to do with his record steals.Originally posted by smokymountainrain View Postwapiti's comment is super weird. there have been hundreds (thousands?) of teams over the years that have played at or about BYU's pace and put up similar offensive numbers over a season, yet no other player has ever produced six triple doubles in a season.
Having a scorer like Haws helps Collinsworth with the assists, but Haws didn't help with rebounds and points.
A qualifier on his resume for me is he had a triple double against Gonzaga. No slouch team.

KC is incredible. He is our MVP at any pace. Its simple math to observe that pace of play helps with numbers, especially counting stats. I don't think it diminishes what he has accomplished a single bit to acknowledge that he plays in a favorable system for counting stats. All you have to do is watch him play to see that on most nights he is the best player on the floor.Originally posted by smokymountainrain View Postwapiti's comment is super weird. there have been hundreds (thousands?) of teams over the years that have played at or about BYU's pace and put up similar offensive numbers over a season, yet no other player has ever produced six triple doubles in a season.Dyslexics are teople poo...

I agree. I love KC as much as anyone, but wapiti has a point. KC gets a lot of assists because of the up-tempo offense we run (more opportunities) and he is dishing the ball to a team loaded with shooting guards. We also run great in-bounds plays and he inbounds the ball each time. KC gets a ton of rebounds because he is an excellent rebounder AND because our bigs have been awful (for the most part).Originally posted by Flystripper View PostKC is incredible. This post makes me miss Mark Grace. What happened to that guy?Originally posted by wapiti View PostI think KC's triple-double stat is a gimmick produced by a unique combination of our pace and team make-up. But it's cool and has produced a lot of buzz for the team and KC."What are you prepared to do?" - Jimmy Malone

Illinois getting wiped out by a bad Michigan team, no less. What will whipping boy Jerry Palm of CBS do when this game ends. He's one of just a handful of bracketologists keeping Illinois in the bracket instead of BYU. On the CBS bracketology page he says he has BYU as his first out. The question is which team he doesn't have in right now will he move past us as soon as the game is over? I used to like Palm, but I think he's gotten a little full of himself since CBS picked him up. He seems to be more about projecting the bracket according to what he wants more than what will actually happen. Either that, or he's stuck in the past and hasn't kept pace with how the committee has evolved over recent years. They're not nearly as pro-P5 and anti-mid major as they were about ten years ago. I will also point out that his record over the last few years is well below average according the the bracket matrix rankings.Originally posted by Moliere View PostGood news on the bubble front. Illinois is getting creamed by Michigan. Also, Utah will hopefully take care of bidness tonight against Stanford.

Again, how many guys over the years have played with teams at a similar pace, yet couldn't get 2 triple doubles in a season, let alone 6? The fact is, regardless of the pace, what KC has done is incredible and certainly isn't "gimmicky" when you consider the thousands of players who have had similar advantages over the years yet couldn't get half the triple doubles KC has this year.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostI agree. If it's so easy to get triple doubles playing at a fast pace surrounded by shooters, why didn't somebody on those Loyola Marymount teams of the early 90s do it? Billy Tubbs Oklahoma teams. The great UNLV teams that ran like crazy. The 40 minutes hell Arkansas teams from the 90s. Some of coach K's Duke teams.
BYU plays at a fast pace for today's college game, but in comparison with the 70s, 80s and 90s, it's just isn't that fast.I'm like LeBron James.

You are interpreting this far too defensively and setting up a false dichotomy. Saying that conditions created a helpful environment for this run in no way diminishes what he accomplished.Originally posted by smokymountainrain View PostAgain, how many guys over the years have played with teams at a similar pace, yet couldn't get 2 triple doubles in a season, let alone 6?
