This is a pretty comprehensive summary of my own thought process, which ultimately caused me to post the question.

It is illogical to want Purdue to lose unless there were room for only one team to get in off the bubble, which isn't true. Since the "bubble" isn't even really a bubble until the season ends and conference tournaments are over, the only rational option is to continue to want BYUs opponents to do well over the next week or so, thereby improving BYUs streng of schedule, RPI, etc. More than one fringe team will get in.

        in sum:

a Purdue loss is a de facto negative to BYUs resume.
a Purdue win is a highly likely boost to BYUs resume.

        • Stanford losing was a downer. Would have been nice to have another top 50 win.

Wow- how one game can change the fortunes of a team. We had a slimmer chance of beating Gonzaga last night than we now have of winning out.

Purdue loses and Stanford loses, but BYU moves into Lunardi's last 4 in. Go figure.

Lunardi moved us in after looking at the effect of injuries or player absences. Not sure what he's looking at. Winder was out at St. Mary's. KC played in the home loss to Pepperdine but was obviously sick and not himself. It's been clearly established that Austin's health would have made this team top 25 but the committee can't use that since he won't be back.

Haws was also injured for a while.

He's got us in the play-in against Colorado St. It would be fun to knock around an old MWC in the first round.

Play in? Are teams from the lowly conferences that get a bid all that good that they wouldn't get the play in. Who is the Big West champ?

Edit: Nevermind. I see the 4 play ins aren't the four worst teams.

                            • I guess I'm happy to see Pepperdine in the other side of the bracket, but the Gaels aren't exactly a rollover.

I guess I'm reading that wrong. My understanding is we get the winner of 7/10 and then the winner of Pepperdine/SD.
