that probably wouldnt be funny in any instance, but it isnt even what i said. I clearly said that if you have an appleTV, then skip the roku. I didnt advise anyone to go out and buy an appletv instead of a roku. I will chalk up your temporary insanity to working late hours at the hospital saving lives.

    • HELP my ignorant understanding. My son tells me if in St. George I buy all Smart TV's and am hooked up to the internet, I can hook into his Dish TV in Lehi and not pay for Cable. My kid is smart in this stuff, but I would like a second opinion.

And you would be wrong. I am sure he is talking about the slingbox you can get with DISH for an extra $50 up front. Then you can stream your live programming and DVR content to anywhere you have an internet connection. It is buggy as hell, slow, poor image quality, and the hardware breaks all the time. Other than that, it's great!

You might be able to connect to his Dish receivers via the slingbox, if your son has the newest Dish equipment. Sat companies are really pushing that sort of tech right now, but I'm not sure.

He didn't say "stream" he said "hook into." That will require some really long cables.

Back in 2006-07 when I was desperate to get BYU games any way possible, I tried out the slingbox. It was just as you currently describe it, and I sent it back within a couple weeks of ordering it. I passed on it when I re-upped with Dish this year, though I was wondering if maybe it had improved since I first tried it. Apparently not.

Yea he mentioned sling box. I am sure he hasn't tried it anywhere so I will let him know how lousy it is. I just hate paying cable TV prices when the home might be used only 10 days a month.

There is another way around it, but it isn't that honest.

                        • Kyle Collinsworth observations from last game:

I like this kid a lot. Nice stat sheet. 13 pts, 11 rebs, 5 assists, 2 TO's, 1 block. I like him with the ball in his hands on the perimeter, he's strong enough to dominate a smaller guard and quick enough to blow by a taller defender. He had some nice finishing moves, and while I expect him to struggle finishing at times this year, I expect him to become a very strong finisher in the key. I love how he rebounds. He was playing too straight up on perimeter D, but I assume as he gets in shape and gets serious against better competition this will change.

WTF is up with his three point shot?? He took two and both were horrible. He's shooting a jump shot, Jackson Emery style, from three. He needs to drop that and go to his free throw shooting set shot form. The first three he took from the angle, he double clutched it, and his body was almost completely perpendicular with being square with the hoop. Ugly. He's never going to be an effective 1 in Rose's offense unless he can bomb the trey. You can't run a high ball screen if the defender can just duck behind the screen and give you 10 feet of cushion.

If KC can develop a three point shot, or at least a minimum be able to hoist it up regularly enough to keep D's honest, he's going to be a real nice player, and maybe even a star.

I think he can be a point forward but you are correct that until he can force opponents to respect him from distance his offense is going to be limited. His mixture of size, strength and that I think BYU will have two really good perimeter scorers this year (Carlino and Haws) will create opportunities for him to get points through penetration, slashing and getting dishes from others, offensive rebounds and trash baskets will get him points. I also think he can develop a mid-range game, but he will never be a dominant player, individually, until he develops a shot beyond the arc.

I think on defense he will be key to BYU. I think having a kid capable of legitimately defending the 2-4, perhaps even the 1, gives a college team enormous flexibility on the defensive side. He is a good player but he is just not yet a good shooter. Time will tell if that will come.

KC should only shoot threes in warm ups, if at all. Had a great second half once he started asserting himself closer to the basket. He was the only BYU player with a double double. needs to work on his haircut, which reminds me a bit of Ivan Drago.

Speaking of double doubles, Luke Worthington/Clark Kent appears as though he has eaten his share of Hostess Fruit Pies which will come in handy when we have to bang against Gonzaga. was a pleasant surprise but had no touch around the basket at times. A couple of his shots looked like frozen ropes with almost no arc on them. He seems willing to hustle.

Other hustle players that may prove to be good additions are Halford and Bartley. Bartley is a win/win, because if he is good, he helps the team win games. If he isn't good, there are a lot of "Bartley is turble...turble.." jokes to be made.

Is this the year Anson Winder breaks out? Maybe I wasn't paying attention last season but don't remember him shooting consistent threes like he did on Saturday.

This is the annual honeymoon period of the season where I am all IN on Matt Carskee-lo based on his ridiculous play in one or two games. I am sure that will change after he goes 0-13 from 3 during a stretch of a few games.
