Here is an article on it. It looks like you were right on the competition angle:Originally posted by Jacob View PostMy understanding is that 1320 didn't own their station, they leased it. Now they are buying 1280 (maybe for the same price as they could have purchased 1320?) and eliminating the competition in a single blow. Seems like a good move.
"This purchase will allow us to protect our base by controlling the distribution of the broadcasts for Utah Jazz, Salt Lake Bees and other sports properties."Same with the signal strength:Originally posted by kccougar View PostAlso, I believe there are FCC regulations and licensing that control signal strength. It is probably easier and cheaper to buy a bigger station in order to increase your signal.
I didn't realize that there was an FM sports station. Here is the line up for both 1280 and 97.5:"And with the increased range provided by a 50,000-watt AM signal, the additions of an FM signal and the station in Utah County, we will better be able to reach and serve sports fans, and Jazz fans in particular, all along the Wasatch Front," Baum said.

Looks like that schedule is missing programming from 3 to 6 on 1280.

Thank goodness they retained Steve Brown. Inside The Outdoors was probably my favo.........zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz."Either evolution or intelligent design can account for the athlete, but neither can account for the sports fan." - Robert Brault

From sullyute's post above, I take it Artrell Hawkins' show will no longer be on, or would JT and Looney go off the air?I'm like LeBron James.

It isn't just his grammar it's his train of thought. He has the rare ability to speak about two or three completely unrelated topics in the same sentence. Worse still is that he almost never completes his thought on any of the topics. You're left wondering how the position of power forward has changed in the NBA, how to cook the boar you just killed, and how many carbs truly are too many.Originally posted by USU Coug View PostOut of disgust I listened to KALL 700 on my way home and happen to catch Karl Malone's show. I'm wondering if 1320 will try becoming a new sports station. Could bring back the Red and Blue show with Jan and Gunther, and then maybe Bagley and OC.
I listened to Checketts/Monson, both were snores.
