That sounds alot like BYU. We haven't really beaten anyone worth a damn either and we lost to a terrible Utah State team. That being said, that was Rose's fault for thinking Zylchstra was a point guard.Originally posted by cougjunkie View PostThis is actually not correct. The two top 10 RPI teams they played (Michigan State and Illinois) they lost too.
The only win inside the top 50 was @Xavier a team that had lost 4 of 5 going in to that game.
Gonzaga has now played 4 teams inside the top 50 in RPI and they are 1-3. You are the Long Beach State of the Northwest. It is nice to schedule those teams but eventually you have to start beating them.
SMC is a good team but simply has had the luxury of playing both BYU and Gonzaga at home. I don't see them being as hot as they were from beyond the arc at the Marriot Center. BYU will win that game.
As for the Zags. Your bigs are over rated. I did not see an NBA future in any of those guys. Harris might have a future overseas and that's about it. Gonzaga will not win the league this year. You can right that down and I wouldn't be surprised to see them lose to another school in the WCC outside of SMC and BYU.

I'll only agree that Sacre is a bit overrated given his size, but still only played 17 mins last night.Originally posted by A-Train View PostAs for the Zags. Your bigs are over rated. Harris had a nice game at 18 pts & 11 rebs, same stat line he had vs BYU last yr in NCAA Tourney.
Also, Sam Dower is a stud and can score vs anyone, look at his stats, 10ppg, 60% FG, 4 rebs vs solid competition and big guys.
Listen, they looked pitiful last night, I wouldn't disagree with that assessment, yet I assure you they aren't overrated. They simply didn't show up and weren't prepared which they admitted in post-game. It was only our 3rd road game on the season and our Coaches didn't have us ready to play. It happens. We were the goats last night.
Only bright spot, once again, was our Freshman PG, Kevin Pangos. He's scored in double-figures every game, his assist #'s are up, shooting very well, and keeps expanding upon his 3:1 Asst to TO ratio.
Its going to be a tough conference race that certainly isn't over. BYU, SMC, GU all have very nice balance to their respective teams.
Also, our leading scorer the last 3 games, Gary Bell was completely rattled by the crowd. He's another true-frosh guard and was a "deer in headlight" at the 2-car garage. It was far & away the most hostile environment we've played in this season and played like it. Just like BYU feels, we played on our heels all night and handed the game to them in the 2nd half. Wide-open looks, not getting back on defense, missing easy lay-ups, not crashing the boards(we're actually a very good rebounding team, yet didn't show last night).
Anyway, it sucked and we got b!tch slapped by the Gaels at home. They've sucked on the road this season, so we'll see how it goes in Spokane. This isn't the first time they've blown us out at their place only to have us blow them out at our place and in the WCC Tourney.
Don't forget the years when BYU had the same home 'n away, heckle 'n hide relationship with UNLV. Smoke their arse at home, get spanked and look terrible at their place.

He can sure score on anyone.
Michigan St: 1-3, 2 points
Notre Dame: 1-3, 2 points
Hawaii: 2-6, 5 points
Eastern Washington: 1-3, 3 points
Washington St: 1-3, 2 points
St Mary's: 1-4, 8 points (against a team without a single legit post player)
That guy can sure score against anyone. His season numbers don't look bad as he has padded his stats against the bad teams they have played. As I lead this army, make room for mistakes and depression

Here is Gonzaga's problem. If you have to count on Freshmen, the Zags will not do well on the road. That is a fact. If you think Gary Bell was rattled by a crowd of 3000. Think how he will do against BYU with a hostile crowd of 20,000. Let me give you a hint, it won't be pretty. Give these guys a couple of years and I think both Pangos and Bell will be legit. Stockton's kid is simply terrible and is your version of our Brock Zylchstra.Originally posted by higherroad View PostOnly bright spot, once again, was our Freshman PG, Kevin Pangos. With regards to your Bigs. Sacre's professional future is in the Develpmental League because he would get owned. We had a center a couple years ago who went it the first round and he dominated in college but couldn't do squat in the NBA. Your center that got busted for pot a couple years ago was much better than Suckre and I don't think he got drafted. Harris has a nice Euro game and that is where he will play.

I marvel when I think of the starting lineup for that game. Zylstra at the 1 and Harrison at 2. Of course we were going to lose!Originally posted by A-Train View PostThat sounds alot like BYU. Brock Zylchstra, LOL. I thought that was a typo at first, well done.Originally posted by A-Train View PostHere is Gonzaga's problem. Not too shabby...49 - 38 with 12 mins remaining -- Zags up. Hope it continues.Originally posted by Viking View PostThe Zags look great against powerhouse Loyola Marymount.
The ghost of Hank Gathers abides.
Coach Few sending a message and playing our 11th & 12th men tonight off the bench...they are the reason for the turnaround after being down early. Our bench is impressive and too bad we didn't play many vs St Mary's. Its our primary strength.
How is BYU looking? Haven't seen...
Santa Clara always looks good early, same with us, then we b!tch slapped 'em in the 2nd half. They couldn't miss from 3pt in 1st half though...you'll be fine.

Lions - 79
BYU - 78
Cougs responds on Sat vs lowly Pepperdine(Zags beat 'em by 30).
BYU - 80
Waves - 55
fwiw, Zags won't lose again until Feb 2nd @BYU. Should make things interesting...

He is the 2nd leading scorer on LMU who has been out with an injury (including the BYU game... he returned tonight against Gonzaga).
