I disagree on Muhammad. Yes Rice should be in the running which he is. But he is still competing against every school in the country.

I was also thinking about the talent at schools like Findlay Prep and why he wasn't landing more of those kids. But the reality with BG and Findlay is that not many of those kids have Vegas roots (Muhammad being the exception).

His only real stronghold in recruiting when UNLV hired him was Bishop Gorman. If he cannot get Bishop Gorman kids, UNLV should be very worried. He has already lost out on one to Oregon, which isn't like it is one of the top schools in the country.

Ben Carter is not really an elite player. He is only a 3 star recruit and Rice got a late start.

You are right though Dave Rice needs to have a strong hold on BG especially with his brother there.

The Special K in the title of the thread....it is the same Special K that only has 4 wins this season and multiple losses of 20 points or more (yet somehow is viewed as improving with each game)?

UNLV should be terrified if they can't get the #1 2012 recruit in the nation! Heaven forbid! Just laughable.

                  Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

That cougar avatar of yours is disgusting. The poor thing has something stuck in its eye. I'm thinking of reporting you to the ASPCA.

Plus, I think he is getting lonely being the only one on that road. It hardly gets any use.

Utes had a much higher self concept last year this time, as they were sure all they had to do was dump Boylen, higher an awesome coach, and they would back to their level as a national, historical power. They ran a lot of smack about how no assistant, especially from a lowly program like BYU, would ever be qualified for their program. So when UNLV started doing well this year, the homers have been working overtime looking for any evidence that might show their arrogance in ignoring great assistants like Rice was well founded.

BYU fans suggestions that Utah hire Dave Rice was smack talk against the Ute program and I called people on it.

Rice was not a good candidate for the Ute job. That isn't to say that he may not be a good head coach, but he was far too big of a risk for Utah to take. He had no proven recruiting ties and no proven head coaching skills. For as low as the Utes program was when they were looking for hire, he was not a viable candidate. By the way neither was Krystkowiak, but at least he had head coaching experience.

If you really want to see what UNLV thinks of Dave Rice and why he is UNLV's coach, look at his bargain basement salary. He also was taking over a stacked program, so they could take a risk on an iffy hire.

What a crock. Dave Rice is an excellent coach and it was no smack to suggest that the Utes consider him.
