Not at all. Even a great coach may be unable to turn around what Boylen had created.

I'll buy Rice as a head coach when he has his players contributing to the team success, not a shitload of talent left over by Kruger.

Only one decent program in the country was going to hire Rice and that was because he was an alum and willing to work for 1/3 of what you have to pay a head coach. Let's not forget that Bradley didn't hire Rice after they interviewed him. Rice would have immediately had the worst coaching resume of any Pac-12 school had the Utes hired him. He was far too much of a risk for the Utes to take.

Dave Rice is an excellent assistant coach, so are a lot of assistant coaches that fail miserably. The jury is still out on him as a head coach.

BYU fans can say all they want that it wasn't smack, but it absolutely was smack by BYU fans pushing for Utah to hire him.

This makes zero sense. Just wanted you to know.

Ha...no kidding. I was glad they didn't hire him.
At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

Would Dave Rice win with Utah's roster?

It wouldn't be any better. He may have a different collection of terrible players. I guess we could save 400k paying him over Krstko.

I watched Findlay Prep vs Bishop Gorman the other night. The two premier high school teams in Las Vegas and the country.

The announcers were raving about UNLVs recruiting class. They have commits from the following players already:

Demetris Morant- 3 star SF out of Bishop Gorman
Katin Reinhardt- 4 star SG from Mater Dei. (had 9 threes against Christ the King last week)
Daquan Cook- 3 star pg ou of Baltimore, Maryland.
Khem Birch- 5 star PF that transferred after 1 sememster from Pitt.

That is an impressive list already since Rice came in halfway through the recruiting process. The following players have UNLV in their top 5 right now:

                    1. Shabazz Muhammad- number 1 player in the country for 2012, the announcers last night said he was starting to lean towards UNLV and was feeling the pressure to stay home.

                    2. Winston SHepard- 4 star SF from Findlay Prep. UNLV is a huge favorite right now over Oregon and St. Johns.

                    3. Anthony Bennet- 5 star PF out of Findlay Prep. Bennet has missed the last month with a torn hamstring. His final five are Kentucky, Florida, Oregon, UNLV and Washington.

                    4. Anthony January- 3 star SF from California. His final 4 are Unlv, USC, Oregon, and San Diego State.

                    5. Matt Wilms- 7 foot center out of Findlay Prep. His final 3 are San Diego State, UNLV, and Texas AandM.

                    For the class of 2013:

                    Commits already from:

Christian Wood- 4 star Power forward out of Findlay Prep.

Players with UNLV in the top 5:

                    1. Nigel Williams-Doss- 4 star SG class of 2013 he committed to UNLV as a freshman but reopened his recruitment when Lon Kruger left. He mentioned last night that he he loves Dave Rice and still thinks UNLV is the place for him but he committed to soon and wanted to make sure.

                    2. Stephen Domingo- 4 star SF otu of San Francisco top 5 are Arizona, Cal, Georgetown, UNLV and Memphis

                    3. Tyree Robinson- 4 star SG out of San Diego top are UNLV, Washington, Arizona, Arizona State, and Oregon

                    4. Tyrell Robinson (twin brother to Tyree) 3 star SG out of San Diego. Top 5 are the same as above.

                    5. Jahmel Taylor- 3 star PG out of California. Top 3 are UNLV, Oregon and Colorado.

If Dave Rice does not land another player he still has a pretty good recruiting class in 2012. If he lands one player on the 2012 list it becomes elite. IF he can land Shabazz or Bennett it becomes top 10. If he lands both it is the number 1 class in the country.

With all the success Rice is having (and he has an excellent platform to do it with) are BYU fans a little wistful about not being in the MWC (as a hoops conference)?

Like if Rice was not having success we'd be peachy about the WCC? The move to the WCC is an abomination.

I wish we were still in the MWC. MWC is a very strong conference without BYU, with BYU they are most likely top 4 or 5 in the country and 3-4 bid league.

I never wanted to leave the MWC if it wasn't for a BCS conference. Yes, I absolutley wish were we still in the MWC.

i dont get this. If the WCC is an abomination of a conference, then BYU should be undefeated. Complain about weakness all you want but BYU is not getting it done. This renders our complaints hollow.

The fact That BYU has lost a couple of games in the WCC does not mean that we should not complain about our current state of affairs.
