A good discussion? You seem to be the butt of everyones jokes. Why is that?

I was being humble. Actually I'm the one who made this thread so long. I also outed Topper as a BYU fan.

My assessments of BYU and its coaches are rarely popular here. But I know BYU.

One of the grandest benefits of the enlightenment was the realization that our moral sense must be based on the welfare of living individuals, not on their immortal souls. Honest and passionate folks can strongly disagree regarding spiritual matters, so it's imperative that we not allow such considerations to infringe on the real happiness of real people.

Huh? Topper was merely reading the thread to discover the reason a lowly western coach could defeat mighty Carolina. This thread is about Dave Rice who captained UNLV to a victory over North Carolina. How is that about BYU? You BYU fans are all the same.

Yeah, well, so far he's done about what Giacoletti did his first year. He's blessed with a team he'd damn well better take to over 25 wins and a Sweet 16 at least.

you apparently didn't watch the game against Carolina when he out-coached Roy to get the win against a team whose players are superior in just about every way, did you?

Roy Williams doesn't coach. He puts the most talented starting five on the floor year after year and just watches them play. It's something that Ben Howland should try.

Anyway, my point is it's quite early to be making these pronouncements. You BYU fans never see beyond the end of your noses. You think that what is today wil always be. It's amazing how this deficit is so widespread among you.

Let's see if Rice does as well as Ray Giac did his first season.

Giacoletti did the same against Oklahoma in the tournament. We will see how things are after he doesn't have the talent that Kruger brought in and the influence of years of good coaching by Kruger on the talent in the program.

Roy isn't great at in game adjustments, but he does prepare his teams well. To say that he doesn't coach is just ludicrous. I wasn't watching that game as a BYU fan. Carolina is to me what Georgetown is to you. In fact, it wasn't until the end of the game that I remembered Dave Rice was at UNLV.

What I saw was that UNLV was well prepared to defend us. They knew what our game plan would be and they were very successful in disrupting it. The double team on Zeller were very effective and in general they did a great job defending the ball as a team. They were good in transition, and when their big men got into foul trouble the guys that came in knew the game plan and executed it.

I agree that it's too early to predict Rice's success at UNLV, but he has a good base to build on. If he's a successful recruiter, he has the skills as a coach to bring them back to the limelight.
