I don't dislike him, just don't think that he should have ever been hired and he hasn't really done anything that gives me encouragement that he was a good hire. I hope that I'm wrong about Krysto.

I can't get over on us passing on Gottfried for Krysto.

One thing with Rice, UNLV had flexibility to hire a great staff as Rice was such a beggar that they were able to pay him only 400K. Of course, I'm not sure how in the hell that Krysto got 950K. He was only slightly more of a beggar than Rice, yet somehow got twice the salary.

The salary might have been Chris Hill trying to save face after having been turned down by Randy Bennett and Tony Bennett among others.

Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

Are we sure he was saving face? Because if $900K was as high as Hill was willing to go, I can't blame the Bennetts or Mark Gottfried from turning down such insulting low-ball offers.

The U. was not turned down by either of those men. For better or for worse, Krysko was always the #1 guy on Hill's list. I don't get that either, but it is what it is, and I am cautiously (and, I think, reasonably) optimistic about Krysko's prospects.

We disagree on what a straw man is. But why should that be any surprise?

This does not help with my concerns about Chris Hill as our AD. If Krysto doesn't get us to the NCAA tournament by year 3, it isn't Krysto that should be looking for a new job, it is Chris Hill.

Sorry, meant to say that Krysto was only "slightly less of a beggar" than Dave Rice.

I think by year 3 Chris Hill will be retiring. After he does, I am sure there will be a thread here devoted to endless arguments over whether he's a bum or a great AD.

The truth of that is somewhere in the middle. He deserves credit for elevating the football program, but I cannot think of single instance of a basketball program being destroyed as bad as our program without a major scandal.

I'm not wanting Hill gone, but I don't want him anywhere near our next basketball hire. He is 0/2 after Majerus so far with both of those being huge misses. Unfortunately, he is looking like he will soon be 0/3.

I hate to prolong this discussion, but how do you come up with the bolded prediction at this point?

I don't think this thread was as much a troll as a response to the idea that Utah was so much above Dave Rice, and that even suggesting they look at him was an intentional smack on Utah's program. I still find that reaction bizarre.

It sounds like there was some other dynamic that was in play that prevented Utah from looking at him? At least that's what both LA and TU seem to agree on?
At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

There was just no way Hill was going to make another assistant the Utah HC after the Boylen debacle.

The program-worst first season and endless departures are probably a good indicator to most reasonable people.
