UNLV has no shooters right now and pretty much everyone on their team needs the ball in their hands to do anything. They're kind of like the college version of the Sacramento Kings from the little I have seen of each team this year.

I watched their game last night against ASU (part of it anyway). I swear that the announcers said that UNLV is shooting 40% FT this year.

Another really interesting thing about UNLV is that their top 4 scorers are all transfers/JC. They have a total of 6 transfers/JC on the team. Doesn't seem like the most sustainable model to rely so heavily on transfers and JC kids.

I watched it as well. They have so many great athletes, they are long, they are exciting. But none of them can shoot. If they can't get to the rim they are completely one dimensional. ASU went zone and it was game over for UNLV.

They have also had a weird revolving door recently for transfers, Mike Moser a graduate student left for Oregon, Katin Reinhardt went to USC and Savon Goodman was kicked off for breaking in to apartments. All three of those guys were big time players.

On the flip side Dave Rice landed Khem Birch a 5 star transfer from Pitt, Roscoe Smith a 4 star transfer from UCONN that has back to back 20 rebound games. In fact he is averaged 15 and 16 boards per game right now. Bryce Dejean-Jones 4 star transfer from USC, and Jelan Kendrick a 4 star transfer from Memphis.

Add that to back to back top 20 recruiting classes and they have tons of talent. The problem is they are not balanced in anyway. They need the token white shooters, maybe that guy is Dantley Walker the kid from rural Utah that scored 40 a game in high school and didn't get a sniff from BYU. He is back from his mission and on the roster as a true freshman. But they need someone to stretch the defense.

But what little I saw of Sai Tummalla, I think he would have done well at BYU. He looked athletic and disciplined. He isn't used much on the offensive end so I got no feel for his offensive game but from what I watched I think he would have been a good 4 in BYU's system.

I also thought UNLV was one of the poorly coached teams I had watched. I also wonder how Rice is such a good recruiter, obviously it is Vegas but that guy comes across to me as decidedly unVegas like. He seems more mormon to me in many ways that Dave Rose.

I can't see Rice sticking around in Vegas much more than another year.

Athletic teams that can't shoot almost always look like they are poorly coached unless they are really into it defensively. Rice isn't known as a defensive guy.

Do you understand the word direction?

Real simple question is Utah better now than when Larry Krystkowiak took the team over? If so that means they are moving in the right direction. I didn't say he was the coach to get Utah where they need to be, I specifically stated that I'm on the fence on the staff.

Another simple question is UNLV better off this year than they were when Dave Rice took over the team?
