“We’re probably going to have tryouts when school starts,” Krystkowiak said.

“I’m not sure there’s not a couple of guys in the student body that wouldn’t come on over and lend some help,” Krystkowiak said. “When we’re beat up we need some more bodies to practice. Utah’s a pretty good basketball state, I would imagine there’s some good hoopers on intramural programs running around. We’re going to look into that when school starts.”
    Fitter. Happier. More Productive.

My boy attended the little Ute basketball camp this past summer. He got all of the autographs of all of the players. This will be worth some big bucks on ebay in the future.

They'll provide great trivia question answers, if nothing else.

lol you're being irrational. Your original point was that K could have recruited guys as good as Watkins ("because they're always available"). Last night was hardly a one man show. Watkins happened to get the last shot. But he shot 7-18 and his FG% is now down to 39.5% on the season. The all-around best players on this team are Martin, Farr and Washburn, and Storey is the one freshman who has shown quite a bit of promise. All of these were recruited by K after the recruiting season was essentially over. But this all overlooks that the past failures occurred with Watkins as the only senior.

What this exchange really shows is how far our standards and expecations have fallen. I thought they reached rock bottom when all those Boylen apologists were clamoring that he should not be fired because he's such a good guy and so generous with free pizza and beer.
When a true genius appears, you can know him by this sign: that all the dunces are in a confederacy against him.

Seven of the top 20 JUCOs nationally were unsigned when Larry took over last year.

Also, we ran Dom Lee in August because Larry was certain he had a significant upgrade entering the program. That didn't happen, and we're playing a scholarship player short.

Players are always around. They won't necessarily get you into the NCAA Tournament by a long shot, and they might carry some baggage. And you have to hunt them down and find them. But there are always enough players around to keep you from being the worst major conference team in the country, or at least enough to get your RPI out of the 300s and get to 10 wins.

Merely 1 or 2 would've done the trick, but if anyone's thinking the JUCOs we signed last spring were the best players remaining in the country, that shows right there you don't know what you're talking about. Of course, you did a good job of that on your own by hinting that Watkins might be the fourth-best player on Utah.

I know that this was directed at Seattle. Jiggy is an interesting player. He is the best player on the team and I really believe that without him, I would have zero hope for any more wins this year or winning last night. When he is playing well, he is really difficult to stop. The problem with Jiggy is that he is also the problem. He plays his own way and it is often reckless and detrimental to the team. There is no other Ute on the team that can really take over a game and get the Utes a win. Jiggy can. With that said, there is no other Ute on the team that can hurt the Utes as bad as he can in a game because he dominates the ball.

With that said, on this years team, I am really glad he is around.

You have used this bit several times and I am agnostic about it. I'd really like some fair analysis. Seriously, how realistic was it that Larry could land any of these guys? If it was, I'd like to know. But right now the "top 20 jucos" claim looks just like argument fodder.
