Word is Loveridge is leaning towards Utah

Unless Rose is beginning to think that BYU is not going to land Jordan "BIG LOVE" Loveridge, I don't understand going after another tweener type of 3/4 with one already on the roster.

On the other hand words cannot describe the horror I feel about the "ill will" that Rose recruiting within the rules is causing. I mean Coach Krystkowiak, within mere weeks, is already well versed in all unwritten rules....that are to his favor!
Loveridge is not Mormon and would likely not have much interest in following a ridiculous "code" while he is in college. Loveridge can live at home and pocket the stipend and still go to the U--kind of like why Davies chose BYU.

I have watched Loveridge a lot. He is a bit undersized and his outside shot still needs work, but he is a real smart player who just knows how to score. He will be a good college player. Boylen didn't think he was good enough to give a scholie to. Instead he wanted to give his scholies to people like Preston Guiot, Dominigue Lee and Fuller because they apparently were good enough but Loveridge wasn't. Gotta give props to the BYU staff. They were the first to offer Loveridge--even before Utah State.

I've said this on the Ute board and will say it again here, Utah will work towards picking up more Utah kids, but if people think Tommy Connor will push a ton more Utah kids to Utah, they are mistaken. Tommy is very critical. I don't think he would recruit himself to Utah today.

Davies chose BYU because he could live at home and pocket the stipend?

I do find it intersting in watching Karem Storey on You Tube

that in the video I watched he is listed at 5'9". He tells the interviewer he needs to work on his outside shot. To me he looks just like Tyrell Corbin. He is a much better recruit than Preston Guiot but that isn't saying much. The jury is still out on this kid.

I'm told the coaches think Storey is quicker than Corbin. We'll see.

that is pretty funny. free brick oven pizza and a $15/travel day per diem really pushed davies over the edge for us. it's a lot cheaper than terrelle pryor's 350z, i guess.

I'm told that was a big factor in his decision.

I'm not sure why that is so shocking or funny. He is a great player and BYU is very very fortunate that he grew up in Provo rather than say Bountiful, Sandy or Logan

each kid a living stipend that includes room and board. it comes to over $1,000 bucks a month. If you can live at home, you get to pocket that money. That's a lot for a college kid.

Heard this from a college coach. If it's wrong, let me know.

                Who told you that UF.N?

Didn't Haws and Davies room together their freshman years? So much for that awesome stipend.

the only way you could reach $1k a month is if tuition, fees, and books are amortized over the semester. a room and board stipend is half that.

You are right they receive a stipend you are wrong in that if they live at home they don't get to pocket the money. If you live at home your stipend is lower than if you were to live on campus. Just like if you are married your stipend is higher.

The staff interpretation [Reference: 6/2/89, Item No. k] specified that a member institution that published a separate room and board figure for students who live off campus in their parents' homes may award student-athletes financial aid equal only to that published figure for their living situation and, therefore, could not award student-athletes who lived off-campus with their parents room and board equal to the published on-campus or off-campus (not living with parents) room and board figures.
I know a buddy of mine when he was at Oregon St. Received $1200 a month for room, board and food. He was married his senior year and it jumped to $1600.

That will work out to $100/ victory!

I think Loveridge will only choose BYU if he is not real convinced about Utah being good. If he perceives Utah as likely to rise I think he will choose the U. I do think his style of play fits well with BYU.

It's not funny. Lots of college athletes choose to play close to home. For many the chance to do so is the deciding factor.

It is actually quite funny since he speculated that Davies played close to home only to pocket his stipend. Since he does not receive a stipend from living at home the chances are Davies chose to play for BYU because they are the better program, better coaches, and he actually wants to win a few games throughout his career.

I propose that even with the stipend, the other listed attributes are likely high priorities.

I've fixed that one for you. Historically the Utes are the better program, of course these kids don't care who is historically the better program.

Also, right now there is really strong argument that the assistant coaching staff at Utah is better than what BYU has right now. I certainly wouldn't trade a staff of Connor, Slocum, Hill, and Parrish for Pope, Nashif, Lacomb, and Hall.

Of course, head coach at BYU is much better than what Utah has right now and that is what matters the most.

Its all about what have you done for me lately. Most of these kids were under 10 during the Utes run to the final four in 1998. Hell Nick Emery and TJ Haws were 3.

On paper Utah may seem to have the better staff but who knows how they gel together and what the end result is. BYU has a proven system, with a proven head coach. They just produced the national player of the year and a sweet sixteen run. On top of that they were ESPNs hand picked Cinderella for most of the year. As a 17 or 18 year old kid BYU looks way better to me than Utah right now.

Now if I could pocket my stipend money and still live at home with my parents then maybe I consider the Utes.
