I agree with you that Sharp is not a player to swoon over. That said, you are overly harsh about the level of talent coming out of Utah recently. I suppose that is because none of it is going to the U. Wilcox is definitely a top talent. Haws is too. Kyle Collinsworth wouldn't have started as a freshman at some schools but he would have started as a freshman at most schools. Davies is also an excellent talent who would be starting most places. I would say there have been 4 top tier talents coming out of Utah County in the last 5 years. Are these kids elite to the point of starting for the big 5? No they aren't. But they are elite in the broader sense.

I would agree with that. I am not sure if Haws or either Collinsworth would be big stars in the PAC-12, but they would be more than solid and I would have been thrilled to have them on the Utes and any of them would be a solid starter in the league. I think they all have very nice careers in front of them.

3 seasons, maybe 4. 2 might even be enough.Originally posted by Surfah View PostThat's a long ways off.“There is a great deal of difference in believing something still, and believing it again.”

Wilcox was a very good Utah high school player, but not a player who was leaps and
bounds better than other players in the state. You would think a player like this (that now everybody thinks is so good) would have helped his team to the top of the state given the perceived lack of basketball talent in Utah. He didn't. In fact, his team did ok, but didn't come close to sniffing a state championship.
Then, he leaves the state and makes the all conference freshman team in the PAC 12.
Wilcox is direct evidence that Utah kids are underappreciated and not over appreciated.Last edited by two utes; 05-31-2011, 01:12 PM.

That is obviously not true, as it does not fit in with SU's preferred narrative.Originally posted by two utes View Postbounds better than other players in the state. According to SU, players from Utah County are overrated. I can't imagine the cognitive dissonance he must be suffering with Wilcox succeeding at Washington.Originally posted by two utes View Postbounds better than other players in the state. Utah fans (other than perhaps SU, and probably even him in his heart of hearts) would have been pleased to have a couple of the recent, very strong Utah County high school kids. One reason (and only one) we didn't get them was their close ties to BYU. But they would have helped Utah, to the extent raw talent could have helped with Boylen as the HC.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostAccording to SU, players from Utah County are overrated. Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!
For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.
Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

On the Ute board he will now become a lousy player that Utah never really wanted. Good luck to the guy.Originally posted by myboynoah View Post“There is a great deal of difference in believing something still, and believing it again.”

Unless he is really a rose that blossomed late I don't think this is a good allocation of scholarships for BYU. Sharp is a 3/4 but in BYU's system he will be a 4. He reminds me of a similar type of player as Stephen Rogers. I doubt he is any more prepared to be a 4 next year than Rogers. Unless Rose is beginning to think that BYU is not going to land Jordan "BIG LOVE" Loveridge, I don't understand going after another tweener type of 3/4 with one already on the roster.Originally posted by LA Ute View PostOn the Ute board he will now become a lousy player that Utah never really wanted. On the other hand words cannot describe the horror I feel about the "ill will" that Rose recruiting within the rules is causing. I mean Coach Krystkowiak, within mere weeks, is already well versed in all unwritten rules....that are to his favor!Do Your Damnedest In An Ostentatious Manner All The Time!

I'll bet dollars to donuts that Sharp initiated any contact with BYU.Originally posted by Goatnapper'96 View PostUnless he is really a rose that blossomed late I don't think this is a good allocation of scholarships for BYU. No doubt Jimmermania led to thousands of doors being opened and multitudes being saved. A by-product was likely Elder Sharp being exposed to the national lovefest of BYU, his ensuing actions were hardly surprising.Originally posted by LA Ute View PostI'll bet dollars to donuts that Sharp initiated any contact with BYU.
