But if his mission papers were turned in yesterday and he's expected at the MTC today that might be viewed as an insensitive move by the Church office in Salt Lake as far as the team and his future are concerned.

      • I've been on a health kick lately, but after hearing the news on the radio driving home, I pulled in and got a Whataburger to ease my sorrows. Didn't help.

I've seriously been waiting for this. Not an HC violation for BD, specifically, but I knew there would be something, I just couldn't figure out what it would be (though, to be honest, I thought it would have something to do with Jimmer's ACL).

My sole hope now is that we win the first-round game. Ugh.

        • Need to give credit to Andy Katz for a very informed article on the Davies situation and what BYU will need to do in order to make up for his production. Katz obviously did his research.

I'm not sure if you remember this fact, but Katz covered WAC basketball for a good part of the '90s for a paper in NM. He knows Utah and BYU pretty well. Katz doesn't talk about it much, keeping up appearance and all, but his background is WAC hoops.

Actually I've heard Katz mention it four or five times this year in his blogs, podcasts, and radio interviews that he used to cover the WAC (usually in vouching for the quality of basketball in the Mountain West/old WAC).

Mike and Mike just talked about Davies. Said that he probably was dismissed for something that he wouldn't have been at another school, speculating pre-marital sex. They read an email from a listener that said I bet he's reinstated before the tournament. Both said at other schools and with other coaches yes, probably. Not at BYU and then they re-read the statement from BYU emphasizing the "remainder of the season" bit.

                  • Tony Reali just tweeted that the tournament hasn't even started yet and he's lost his two Final Four teams BYU-Davies and UNC-Bullock.

Gauging the reaction has been interesting. You have people making jokes like Davies kicked out for seeing his girlfriend's shoulder. Then you have people ripping BYU. Then you have people commending BYU for remaining true to core values despite having an amazing year.

Honestly, Leinart's sex life was and is the least of SC's PR problems. As Triplet suggested, by the time Leinart's situation made what few headlines it did, he was already with the Cardinals.

If you see Davies around town tell him that is still an option for him.

                        • The most devastating consequence he now has to face, IMO, is looking his teammates in the eye and trying to explain to them how and why he let them down.

                          My thoughts exactly.

I have a feeling that this type of commendations will be few and far in between and that they will be drowned out by the comedians and critics.
