  • Sometimes as a BYU fan I feel like I can empathize with the abused woman who can't leave the abuser.

Aren't all the posts on here doing the exact opposite. Making the assumption we know what happened and condemning the university with knowing almost 0 facts.

I really hate playing the role of HC apologist (I think I have enough posts on here to show I'm not a big stone the sinner type guy) but this thread seems full of assumptions.

When the alcoholic is slurring his words your first assumption usually isn't that he's having a stroke.

Fair point. Lebowski's post was proably the most level-headed and appropriate approach. Wait and see, etc.

Although I think a lot of the shock and anger comes from the rush to judgment. The HC office first heard of this 24 hours ago ...

          • I think at moments like these, Lebowski and others should create a "code red" background for the board, just to incite and illicit more angry feelings.

(though, as Babette might want me to point out, Steve Meyers would not have the authority to do so here as this is not his board)

One of the most interesting phenomenons is how LDS folks approach the BYU HC. For the fans of BYU this incident is always clear proof of the Pharisitical nature of the Mullahs and athletes are unfairly targeted and picked on. For the fan of other schools the HC is proof of BYU hypocrisy or it should be enforced in a Draconian manner. What I get from this is the wonderful flexibility within LDS teachings and that I think very few approach BYU sports in any way other than thru their partisan eyes.

Personally, my preference is lots of HC looking the other way. Good for BYU sports and it feeds the hate. Appears they once again ignored me. I am getting used to it.

I'm choosing to mostly ignore your fatuity here and instead overwhelm you with so much data that you'll maybe, just maybe, realize that you have reams to read on this subject before you can contribute meaningfully to any conversation on this topic.

Assumptions abound, this is true, but as someone else said, I think the HC office has established a consistent track record and I think if this follows that track record then we're justified in being upset.

There is absolutely no reason for a student to be put on probation or kicked out of the school for having had sex out of wedlock. I understand BYU has this image that they're trying to protect, but unless they are disfellowshipped or excommunicated by the proper priesthood authorities then there is no reason to issue such a drastic punishment.

Knock it off. This board has enough problems without a dose of middle-age lechery.

You have no eligibility left. Why should we care?

We have a hard time telling the difference between senile rants and lucid posts.

That's only the story if you feel that the HC is just.
Even for an apologist like Wrubell, that is a ridiculous statement.

Bingo. There is no place on the planet more difficult to be a mormon than BYU.
