I agree completely that going to the WCC will not hurt BYU's ability to recruit LDS athletes especially LDS athletes who are children of former BYU players.Originally posted by cougjunkie View PostConsidering we have recent commits (Since the WCC announcement) from Damarcus Harrison (Clemson, Florida State, NC State, Boston College and several other offers) and pretty much a done deal commit from Jordan Chatman (Oregon, Washington state, ASU, etc). It seems like it has not hurt all that much.
If Independence has not hurt football recruiting (and it clear has not to this point in fact the exact opposite) then joining the WCC will have zero impact on basketball recruits. Sadly most high school kids and the rest of the country for that matter see the Mountain West and the WCC on pretty much the same level.
Now recruiting non-LDS athletes and non-children of former BYU players, it will have an impact. As I lead this army, make room for mistakes and depression

Like who Matt Carlino? Who decided to transfer to BYU from UCLA even though he knew we were going to the WCC?Originally posted by mpfunk View PostI agree completely that going to the WCC will not hurt BYU's ability to recruit LDS athletes especially LDS athletes who are children of former BYU players.

Or do you mean like Jordan Loveridge? A non-LDS African American that has said several times BYU is his top choice?*Banned*

You're never doomed. There is always hope. For BYU, at least. Utah, however, is doomed. It's our lot in life.Originally posted by Blueintheface View PostIf I had less class I'd post "We're Doomed!" Good thing I took the highroad.
Love you, LA!
We will be the next Washington State in the PAC.
We'll never get a decent hoops coach and the new conference is not going to help us much at all in our search.
We are even reduced to being taunted here for having been rejected in our search by a lowly WCC coach. (That the taunt comes from a fan of the newest WCC member school is interesting, but not surprising.)

Maybe whoever BYU's coach is can make a deal with whoever the next Utah coach is: If you won't mention the volleyball lines, we won't mention the smoke machines.Originally posted by Goatnapper'96 View PostBut the opposing coaches did not have the time to show them the size of the gyms, with those recruiting class destroying volleyball lines.“There is a great deal of difference in believing something still, and believing it again.”

I didn't say it will completely destroy your recruiting, just that moving to a lesser conference will impact it which certainly isn't a crazy statement. As for Jordan Loveridge, I agree it also won't impact your instate recruiting.Originally posted by cougjunkie View PostLike who Matt Carlino? So it is not likely to impact BYU with mormon kids, mormon kids whose dads played at BYU or in-state recruiting.Originally posted by mpfunk View PostI didn't say it will completely destroy your recruiting, just that moving to a lesser conference will impact it which certainly isn't a crazy statement. Can somebody tell me exactly how many players BYU has recruited outside of those 3 demographic types that had scholie opportunities significantly better than the WCC coming out of HS?Do Your Damnedest In An Ostentatious Manner All The Time!

You are one of the good guys, BITF. I am simply tweaking a few others here, whom I love as my brothers in the gospel but whom I detest as BYU fans.Originally posted by Blueintheface View PostUm...you're talking to yourself again dammit!

That would be an upgrade from the last few years. This year Washington State went 21-12 (9-9 in PAC), with a couple of decent wins (they beat Gonzaga by 21 points, beat Washington twice, beat Baylow when they were ranked) and lost several very close games (#5 K-State by 5, #25 Arizona by 2, a few close losses to UCLA, etc). This would have been a decent upgrade over our last two seasons.Originally posted by LA Ute View Post
We will be the next Washington State in the PAC.
Now they are in the NIT quarterfinals. Depite what people say, the NIT is NOT a tourney played by teams ranked #64 and higher.
All in all the Cougars did OK this year.
