In any event we are in for a few painful years in hoops, as if the last several haven't been painful enough.
UteStar and LA Ute! clue this clumbsy rugger in!

You have a big gym, looks bigger when it doesn't have fans in the seats you tricky devils, and will visit other huuuuuge gyms in the Pac-xx. Besides that there are no volleyball lines on the courts. Those my friends are the the sure-tell signs of success in college hoops. Game results, NCAA Tourney results, head to head wins, fans in the seats...they all mean nothing compared to the GYM SIZES OF THE CONFERENCE OPPONENTS!

See Goat, we agree on lots of things! You forgot one other thing - University proximity to a major airport. That is HUGE.

I still hope Rose stays at BYU, even though you are a mean hateful person who wishes my school ill in its coaching search.

(You don't think coaches from the PAC12 who are competing with BYU for recruits will show the kids photos of the WCC gyms next to photos of PAC12 arenas, do you?)

Please cut out the Ute-Zoob smack with me, any Airborne man who loves boobies the way you do MUST be better than that.

Rebuilding is a painful process. That is all.

Pulling a partial pirhouette and flashing my foot to precisely the right place to graze the dude's noggin while already airborn, and making it look like a complete accident, is hardly clumsy.

I think the coaches will show the pictures. That is not what really matters, Counselor. What matters is how the pictures are going to influence the decsion making of the recruit. I think the only kids BYU will compete with the Pac-12 for are going to be high profile Mormon kids. I don't think the 7 away games in the small gyms are going to negatively affect BYU chances any more than the away games BYU has had to play in Laramie, Fort Collins, Fort Worth, Colorado Springs or even the Dumpsmen! I could be wrong, but I doubt it, however methinks that "the mothers that know" is going to have more influence than how many seats in in a hoop stadium in Moraga, CA.

See if BYU is going to be moving into a BCS conference I am sure the chosen few Ute fans blessed with the capacity to think would point out that BYU is not as likely to get the boon from BCS membership that many other programs would get. Those chosen few thinking Utes would be right. In a similar vein, BYU hoops program is probably less likely to be as negatively influenced by the small gyms and dratted volleyball court lines as a traditional college program. BYU is a bit unique in that way.

The real indicator is Dave Rose. If he bolts I get concerned, if he stays I am quite sure things are going to be just fine.

But there are fathers who don't know. And recruits with weak testimonies who might want to play in Pauley every year.

Exactly what is the change? With the recruits we are speaking about why did they pick BYU over ASU or Stanford in the past? Are you saying that Utah is going to become the de facto home for Mormon high profile players?

You serious when you say you know mormons and college sports?

I am just saying that some recruits don't want to play in the WCC. In the past BYU was competing with ASU and Stanford, but wasn't playing in the WCC. Utah stands to benefit from the change, but so do the others. You don't think being in the WCC helps BYU in hoops recruiting, do you?

                      • All I know is that one of those seats in Moraga is going to have my butt planted in it once a year.

Considering we have recent commits (Since the WCC announcement) from Damarcus Harrison (Clemson, Florida State, NC State, Boston College and several other offers) and pretty much a done deal commit from Jordan Chatman (Oregon, Washington state, ASU, etc). It seems like it has not hurt all that much.

If Independence has not hurt football recruiting (and it clear has not to this point in fact the exact opposite) then joining the WCC will have zero impact on basketball recruits. Sadly most high school kids and the rest of the country for that matter see the Mountain West and the WCC on pretty much the same level.

I certainly don't think it helps. Why would you ask that question? I am just saying that I think the reasons many kids come to BYU is because they are competitive enough for a really good player and usually that really good player is a mormon. Given the example of Gonzaga, I think there is precedence that belonging to the WCC indicates a hoop program can play there and flourish, heck a little school like St Mary's has had some national level success even. When I look at BYU's strengths as a program, namely the loyalty of its recruiting base, I am less than convinced this is as big an impediment to BYU maintining its current level of play than others are indicating. I think BYU can still make it to the NCAA tourney 7-8 times a decade, win half of their first round games and make it to the second weekend on occassion, perhaps even more frequently than once every thirty years.

Now would I rather BYU still be playing New Mexico, UNLV and SDSU? Absolutely, but with the Zags and St Mary's I think there are still going to be enough competitive games to keep me interested in January-March. It will also help if BYU can pull of some good OOC matchups during the conference season.
