  • Does anybody know why they don't sale authentic jerseys, warm ups, or other team apparel? It drives me nuts flipping through Eastbay and seeing 60 schools with their team apparel, jerseys, etc and nothing for BYU. At the bookstore and online you can get Emery and Fredette jerseys but they're replicas by some company called OT Sports. And they're still not cheap. I am not going to drop $60 for a replica.

Really what I want is the warm up jacket and team shorts. I have seen the football jacket with the oval but I like the block BYU much better.

    • Ive looked and asked for the authentics. The guy at the bookstore doesn't know why they dont sell them because he said everyone asks for them. I like the warm up jacket, too.

Oval Y > Block Y. Anything that reminds me of the Crowton era is grody to the max.

I meant just the the block letters BYU. I have seen the football warmups for sale with oval Y, but I want the basketball warmups.

I too hate the old block Y in the oval. White shoulders, tan, bibs. Grody to the max.

          • Goat makes a point I have been meaning to write about for awhile. I feel this team is like TCU was in FB, no matter how much gametape people had their speed on defense was shocking in real life, especially combined with their scheme. The same is true with Jimmer, Jackson and the clan. I think it is very difficult for most teams to appreciate the defensive discipline that is required to play against this team. I also think that most 18-21 teams still see 3 to 4 pasty, seemingly unathletic, players on film and much like Bilas or Kerr assume they can use their own athleticism to run with BYU.

Personally, I think was part of the reason Butler and Hayward faired so well last year. Small conference team with a goofy looking white guy killing people with his range and athleticism.

Somewhat related noted, did anyone else notice how much grand Jackson covered on Jimmer's long 3 miss at SDSU? He literally tracked down White, 20 feet from behind. I think Jackson would have been a fantastic free safety-smart, sees angles well, amazing anticipation, and a true ball-hawk. Unless he wants to relocate to Turkey I think his basketball days are over. Wouldn't he have 1 year of eligibility for football left though?

That's amazing when you consider the type of ratings the Super Bowl and American Idol get.
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

3rd highest rated CBB game on CBS this season. Not bad, but not quite as good as you might have thought. It was a 2.0 overnight.

Not bad. It'd been great to snag a couple of #1 votes from the coaches, but no real complaints.

A nice "Team of the Week" blurb from Katz. It helps when he goes to our games

                      Team of the Week: BYU
Brigham Young ended the week as a No. 1 seed in Joe Lunardi's bracket. The reason is the Cougars knocked off Colorado State at home and then completed a season sweep by beating San Diego State on Saturday at a rocking Viejas Arena.

On Saturday, it was more than just The Jimmer Show in San Diego.
Of course, it helped that Texas lost at Colorado and Duke fell to Virginia Tech. But BYU did its part. No other team this week had to win a game in as crazed an environment. The season sweep of San Diego State -- the only two losses the Aztecs have had this season -- puts the Cougars as the top team in the West and in position to be in Denver for the first and second rounds, and then Anaheim if the Cougars advance to the Sweet 16.
BYU had every reason to be intimidated Saturday with a capacity crowd revved up and ready for revenge. But the Cougars, every one of them, were poised and played with a purpose on every possession. Jimmer Fredette dished out nine assists and had a hand in nearly all the team's 14 made 3s. BYU's defense on San Diego State's interior was solid, and the overall preventive nature that limited the Aztecs' fast-break opportunities was also effective.
BYU has two games remaining -- home games against New Mexico and Wyoming -- to clinch the MWC title and its top seed, as well as stay on course for a No. 1 seed.
Meanwhile, Fredette is inching closer to being the national player of the year, and there's no reason why Dave Rose shouldn't be a finalist for national coach of the year. The Cougars have developed into quite a story because they are not just Fredette and four others. Rose has massaged this team to work well together at both ends of the court.

                      • Saturday's BYU-SDSU game drew the highest overnight rating (2.0) for any college hoop game televised over the weekend, tied for season-high.

That according to Jay Drew. So tied for highest of the season.

BYU effed this up the last time we were here with Chatman, Smith, and Haws. I was comfortable with a top ten ranking and a 2 seed, now I'm nervous about it. I do not want us to be ranked #1 to end the season, that's for sure. I'd be ok with us getting a 1 seed so long as we don't have to play K-State or George Mason in the second round.
