The USC loss is unforgivable, early or not. (I'm a Texas fan incidentally and haven't yet forgiven them for last years debacle, and still include that as a continuing problem)Originally posted by smokymountainrain View PostHuh? They had won 11 straight prior to that loss and 17 of their last 18 - with the one loss coming against a very good UConn team by 1 point."Either evolution or intelligent design can account for the athlete, but neither can account for the sports fan." - Robert Brault

At the time, the Arizona win didn't seem impressive - UofA coming off a subpar season and BYU making them look really bad, but now, that win on a neutral court, is one of BYU's better wins of the last several seasons. Perhaps even their best win this season considering the way they did it and that SDSU was a home win.Originally posted by KillerDog View PostVery possible. I just keep going back to our resume and for once, it is legit when compared to other top resumes.
SDSU's resume is actually kind of weak.
So is Duke's.
Duke at least has the UNC win. SDSU has the two UNLV wins. None of those come close to BYU's collection of Arizona, SDSU, 2x UNLV and USU wins. BYU has 3 home, one neutral and one road win over teams in the top 30 rpi. That's impressive. Duke's UNC win is a top 10 or so rpi win but that's not as good as BYU's win over SDSU. SDSU has two UNLV and so does BYU. Basically, BYU's resume is better than both Duke and SDSU's resume combined and it is better by wins over Arizona and USU.I'm like LeBron James.

The resume is strong right now, even with the UNM loss getting worse. But I'm not sure CSU can hang on to their spot in the top 50 or that AFA will stay in the top 100...it would really suck to have those teams drop off from those spots. But Vegas is close to giving us two more wins against the RPI Top 25, UTEP is still knocking on the Top 50 door, and Utah is actually up to 108.
Current resume:
RPI - 2, Pomeroy - 6, Sagarin - 5, SOS - 22, OOC SOS - 15
3-0 vs. RPI Top 25
7-1 vs. RPI Top 50
11-2 vs. RPI Top 100
5-0 vs. Sagarin Top 25
Top 50 wins (road/neutral game in italics)
SDSU - 3
Arizona - 14
USU - 19
UNLV - 27
UNLV - 27
St. Mary's - 46
Colorado State - 49
Top 51-100 wins
UTEP - 51
Vermont - 72
Air Force - 95
Air Force - 95
Losses
UCLA - 42
New Mexico - 82
Games vs. Top 100 left to play
CSU - 49
SDSU - 3
UNM - 82

Agreed - what I had a problem is that you said they continue to lose head scratching games - a team that has 11 straight and 17 of 18 doesn't continue to lose any games.Originally posted by Blueintheface View PostThe USC loss is unforgivable, early or not. But now, as a fan, it sounds like you're talking about a year to year type deal. That from year to year they continue to lose head scratchers. I guess that makes sense.I'm like LeBron James.

Huge 10 day stretch for BYU. I personally, think the CSU and NM games are more important to BYU's seeding than SDSU. Right now BYU seems like a fairly solid 2 or the highest seed 3. There is very little difference between a 2 or 3 seed. If BYU were to lose to either the Rams or Lobos at home that would definitely be a "bad loss" and could easily drop Jimmer and the boys to a 4 seed. There historically a huge difference in 4th vs. 3rd seeds in making it to or past the Sweet 16.
Winning in SD next Saturday would be huge and most likely lock in a 2 seed and possibly put BYU in the Denver (Mountain momma, take me home...). I tee very little chance of BYU grabbing a 1 seed, and even if they did they would likely be the last 1 seed and be playing very similar opponents to a 2 seed.
Perhaps being a lifelong Cougar and Blazer fan has set me up to lower my expectations, so as not to be disappointed. But barring a 20 point blowout loss in SD (which I don't see happening) the cougs tournament future is much more dependent on the two games in Provo.

BYU, and by extension SDSU, got screwed here. Saturday's matchup should be a matchup of top 5 teams. These two teams have earned it but won't get the credit. Then, if BYU loses, they will fall out of the top 10.Originally posted by EuropeanFootballMale View PostThat really sucks. Turns out it probably would have been better if just 1 or 2 teams ahead of us lost. With everyone losing they just shuffle the top.

7th with 2 #1 votes. Seriously, who in their right mind votes BYU #1 right now? Now if they beat CSU and SDSU this weekend while others in front struggle, maybe.Originally posted by cougjunkie View PostBYU 7th in the AP.A man who views the world the same at fifty as he did at twenty has wasted thirty years of his life. - Mohammad Ali
