It's America, people's names get butchered.

Do you know how Chuck Knoblauch's name is supposed to be pronounced? Knoblauch is German for garlic. It's pronounced ka-nobe-lowk.

If some knob decided to start announcing Knoblauch's name with the German pronunciation, he would sound ridiculous. Zundel sounds ridiculous. It's evolved into A-boo-o and that's that.
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

      lol.

Yeah, missing that extra syllable is outrageous. And it is sooo tough to pronounce.

      You guys are killing me.

Yes, technically ab-whoa is closer to correct, but it can't be reduced to anything that simple. There's a hint of native accent in there that Zundel is completely missing. It's not "ab-whoa" it's more ahb-oh-oo-oh, though the first "oh" is only pronounced slightly and the last three are all mashed together. Zundel is saying "Ab-woahw" with his hickish twang, and in doing so, he's butchering it just as much as everyone else.

            Only everything Rod Zundel does.

                • I've been mispronouncing it all this time, as well.

Whenever I say his name at a game, I pronounce it "makeyourdamnlayups"

I was obviously way off. I need to brush up on my foreign languages.

                  • Just like that BYU is RPI #1 again.

                    • Everything about BYU's resume is really good. Number one in RPI (current), top 20 SOS. Great quality wins (based on RPI). Yet this RPI site has BYU as a 5 seed (and SDSU as a 6). Seems kind of weird.

Someone on CB emailed the guy to ask what's up and here is his response.. Quite interesting:

I don't buy BYU at a 5 seed unless BYU loses to somebody other than SDSU in the MWC tourney. If BYU loses in San Diego and to Utah or CSU in the conference tourney I could see them dropping down to a 5 seed. But if BYU loses to SDSU both in San Diego and in the tourney, I see them dropping to a 4 seed. As you have pointed out BYU will have a really good resume and had lots of national publicity to go with it.

So, the short answer is that Indy is right and the committee under-seeds BYU on a regular basis. The further answer is that the committee under-seeds the entire MWC on a regular basis. I think we all instinctively knew this.

Did you say that all hope had been lost after the loss at New Mexico? Wasn't the sky falling in and the best we could hope was a 6 or 7 seed?

Yup.. If we only lose to SDSU and, say, CSU in the 2nd round, we should still have a very high RPI (top 5 for sure), but like napper said, I fear we would get dropped to a 4 or 5 seed. Quite the shame, but history has said so. Hopefully the fact that we have been ranked in the human polls for so long combined with Jimmermania sweeping the nation, the committee might be kind and give us a 3 seed. Will be interesting to see how it pans out.
