        • Steve Alford: "Everyone else got better but us."

Steve did lose a lot of production when Hobson and Martinez left, two of their three best players last year. But they got everyone else back and added UCLA transfer Drew Gordon.

BYU lost two starters (Haws, Miles), two top bench players (Tavernari and Loyd), and one of their big additions to help replace those losses was right off his mission and hasn't been healthy yet.

It is remarkable what Rose, Jimmer, and crew are doing this year.

The reality is that mono stole a great opportunity from BYU last year. Jimmer being totally healthy has been a huge boost to this year's squad and even with the better offensive post play, I think last year's supporting case was better. Perhaps this year could be better if Chris Collinsworth were healthy but he is not and not likely to get healthy until next year. However, having a 100% Jimmer makes BYU better than last year.

I think this is true. Jimmer's fitness this year has been unreal. The guy has a tremendous motor and is constantly going. The difference between this year and last year is pretty stark I think and mono can be blamed for that along with some off season work.

The one good thing is that we have a nice break, a tune up with TCU, then sharpen the saw a bit at CSU before heading into SDSU. I like the way the schedule is shaping up. Hopefully CC can rest and maybe get some of it back before then.

Also, having Emery healthier has been a big difference, not to mention being grounded instead of away from home for a month so the team can get in some practices.

Interesting, I was dreaming of the Utes and came up with my fantasy Ute teams:

                2011-12
                SF: Will Clyburn
                PF: JJ OBrien
                PG: Someone really good
                SG: Someone fabulous
C: Big and Tough and Awesome

                2012-13
                SF/PF: JJ Obrien
                PG: Someone really good
                SG: Someone fabulous
                SF/PF: Another terrific player
C: Big and Tough and Awesome

                2013-14
                SF/PF: JJ OBrien

C: Big and Tough and Awesome

I think if our lineup fills out like that, I will really like our future.

                  • Any info on C Collins? I hope even if he's got another month to recover, that he doesn't hang it up for the rest of the season. He could be the difference in a big game in March.

Would be a beautiful thing to get that 2 seed SDSU has...open up in Tuscon and then play in Anaheim if you advance to the Sweet 16.

                          • Kyle Collinsworth has now made 11 out of his last 13 FTs (85%). And after starting the season 0-7 from three he's at least improved to 5-16 since then.

That kid must be putting some serious work in on those FTs. Or maybe he quit working extra on them and its messing with his mind less.
