    1) We lost to USU.

    2) I know it is unlikely we lose to Utah but they are our rivals and UNLV is not.

    3) Getting a big win is great but it does not equate to a rivalry win.

      1) I know what you are saying, but this basketball team is not remotely similar to the football team that lost to USU.

      2) I didn't get very excited for the Utah games last year, and am not excited for them this year. Though I'll still get plenty of satisfaction from sweeping them yet again.

      3) I look forward to the UNLV games and feel they are more of a basketball rival at the moment than Utah is. Maybe I'm going with a different definition of rivalry. To me, they are.

          • Bilas big on BYU:

I think that BYU will be a 2 or 3 seed. If they beat SDSU twice or three times, they can get up near a 1-seed, but that is probably unlikely. I really like that team. They play fast, get out and guard, and I like the Brandon Davies kid. Jimmer Fredette is a National POY guy, and I am a big fan of Jackson Emery. That kid can really guard and compete. Tough kid. Can I call any of the Cougars "kids"? They are all 30 years old!! So what, they can really play.
Skipped over this nugget when asked for his darkhorse Final Four teams:

BYU and San Diego State are the two I would put forth. I really don't see a Butler-type team out there right now. Then again, did anyone see George Mason in 2006?

            • So #13 (Georgetown), #12 (Texas), #11 (Kentucky) and #8 (Missouri) all lost today. Time for some sweet, sweet poll love.

30 years old makes no sense with the B-ball team. Emery is 24, but Davies is 19, Jimmer is 21 (almost 22), KC is 18, Abouo is 21, Noah is 22, James Anderson is 22, Martineau 22, Magnusson 25, Winder 18, Carlino 17.

I am guessing the average age is on par with most of the country.

Anderson is in his 4th year in the program after a mission. He is at least 24 and perhaps 25. Hartsock is in his 3rd year after a mission so he is at least 23 and perhaps 24.

Sucks that a win at Utah might drag it down.

                        • 11 of BYU's 17 games have been neutral or away -- which is proving to be a huge boost to their RPI.

Yeah and not just the RPI, but you have to think that all those road/neutral games helped the team get that big win at UNLV.

                            • I effed the calculation up. It's not quite that significant a difference because the losses are weighted too. It would be 4th, not 18th.

Shouldn't. The real rpi killing wins are the teams who have rpis below 250. The U shouldn't hurt us much with their rpi. Wyoming OTOH needs to continue to give the lower half of the conference trouble. That way their rpi won't hurt everyone as badly.
