I like Watkins. He should have been on the floor much more than he was last year.

I went to the Utah practice today. It started out really great, especially when Utah ran drills when there was no defense. They looked unstoppable!

I think Boylen's got more clay from which to mold than he had last year. I'm not sure that clay is in the hands of a master molder, but that's to be seen.

Three of the new guys stood out - Jiggy Watkins, Will Clyburn, and JJ O'Brien. I don't see any of the other new guys getting much, although in descending patriarchal order they'd probably be DiMaria, Lee, Guiot, Kupets, Fuller, the video coordinator, the guy in section V row 17, and Neal Monson.

Jiggy Watkins looked today like the point Boylen's been missing. He's also been missing the point that a microphone actually amplifies the voice when the holder speaks directly into it, but that's another story. I wouldn't say Jiggy is too fast, but he's very quick with the ball, he's thick, and he seems to see the floor very well. He can also shoot some.

Will Clyburn isn't as wide as I thought, but he's very smooth and can really finish. He also looks like he can shoot.

JJ O'Brien has a feel for the game. I'm not sure he's great at anything right now, but he's got soft hands, he seems to be in the right spots, he rebounds well for his size, and he can shoot just a little.

The concern for this team is offense. Who in the world is going to score? I think Glover's got some game, but his defense is just this side of ugh. Foster has all of the offensive polish of Billy Paultz. Jay Watkins can score, but not really as a creator.

The main scorers look to be Hines, Jiggy, Clyburn, and Glover. I guess we'll see if that's enough. Boylen has said he wants to run, but we've heard that since the first year of the great Ray Giacoletti, and we've seen about as much running as Oprah on a binge. I remain skeptical.

Utah will play hard, and I think the elements, as Sherlock said to Dr. Watson, are coming together. Or something. I think they will be better than last year. That's probably only good for fifth in the conference, but what I'm really looking for this year is hope.

I went in expecting to be underwhelmed, but it seems like Clyburn has all of the tools. And, unlike most of Utah's main guys since Bogut (and Neville's last year), he's good on both ends.

I really like him. With a point who can create and any semblance of a post game, he could be pretty freaking good this year.

It was at 1:00 yesterday. I'm not sure if that's the usual. I try to go to a couple a year, and they are always in the afternoon.

Also, I think there's a scrimmage tomorrow at 12:15 at the House That Styrofoam Built and another one on Tuesday at 7:00pm.
