    The Official Ute Basketball Thread

(I hope there isn't one already.)

I saw this clip on the Ute board and it's worth watching when you have the time:

Well, this will be interesting: 10 new players on the 2010-11 Ute basketball team:

Hoops: New-look Utes hoping for an improved season

Some advice for fans planning to attend University of Utah basketball games: buy a program or risk not recognizing the players.

Coach Jim Boylen has made major changes to his roster after last season, when the Utes finished 14-17 overall and 7-9 in the Mountain West Conference.

Four of the top five scorers from that disappointing team are gone, including transfers Marshall Henderson and Carlon Brown.

In fact, only six of the 16 players on last year’s roster return, meaning the new-look Utes are undergoing a crash course in Boylen 101 as they prepare for the Nov. 12 season-opener against Grand Canyon....

What is your prediction for the season?

Do they beat Grand Canyon to open the season?

That was hilarious. The funniest part was that Utah had a guy on the team named Leon Watson, and he was white.

Fine. Make fun of the historical newsreel. Then find me a newsreel clip about some notable athletic success by the BYU back in that era.

They're playing with house money this year. Expectations are at an all-time low. If Boylen meets those low expectations, he's gone and a move to the Pac 10 could yield a better coach. If he is able to turn it around and somehow have a 20 win season, that's fine too.
"They're good. They've always been good" - David Shaw.

Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

I'm an optimist. I will be betting the over for them in wins this year. In fact I am going to go as far as saying they tie for the conference championship. Clyburn will be Newcomer of the year and first team MWC. He is a great scorer.

Wow. Only a few years from a Sweet 16 appearance, and already forgotten.

You should know then that BYU also has a basketball program, although, I wouldn't blame you for not knowing that.

Cougar fans mock, but they shall mourn. It's only a matter of time before Utah hoops is back, and the LDS all-star team from BYU is left in the dust.

                            Thank you Seattleute.

Weird that your coach is spending a significant amount of time trying to recruit the Utah County All-stars.

Ute fans have to like the attitude of the only senior on the team:

More from Utah basketball player Jay Watkins

Specifically, what does a team leader do?

"... I'm going to do whatever it takes. I'll be a guy who
listens to them, when they have questions. I'm going to be a guy who
helps them -- a mentor, a tutor. I want to be an extension of coach
Boylen when he's not around. I'll be their friend. I'll be a big
brother. I'll do whatever I have to do to help their transition to
                              this level and this system.
