Carlino is a transfer who you don't know a damn thing about. Winder and Abouo are not better than Clyburn in any way. If Clyburn was on BYU he would be a starter.

Exactly the coach in charge of recruiting at BYU that has landed Jimmer Fredette, Damarcus Harrison, Tyler Haws, Kyle Collinsworth, Matt Carlino, etc. would not be a good fit for Utah. The fact that if he was coaching at a school that was not a religious institution like BYU and would have a legit shot at landing Shabazz Muhammad and ROscoe Allen should not be considered either. Also he is the architect of BYUs offense an offense that has ranked in the top 10 nationally every year since he has been on the staff. None of that would make the utes better, in fact they would be much better off hiring a washout like Theus from New Mexico st. or a drunk like Billy Gillespie. At least those guys would better be able to relate to the fans up there.

If he was the head coach at Utah he wouldn't be stealing any of those recruits from Dave Rose especially the likes of Fredette, Harrison, Haws, and Collinsworth. Recruiting would potentially be one of the major problems with hiring Rice because he isn't stealing away Rose's recruits. He would have to learn an entirely new recruiting base at Utah.

All these things that your are saying about Rice are the same type of things that Michigan St fans were saying about Boylen. Tireless recruiter, brought great talent to Michigan St, etc. There is a huge difference between being an assistant recruiting and being the closer. BYU gets those LDS recruits because of Rose and because of their religious affiliation, not because of Rice.

How exactly is Theus a washout? He was successful at the college game and left for an NBA job.

You and I differ on that opinion but I agree with just about everything else. Clyburn's issue is strength and he lacks any. He has a silky smooth shot coveted by most coaches and defensive skills just as equally lamented by those same coaches. I think he would play at BYU but KC would probably still start based on size and strength.

Winder has never played a single DI game. Carlino washed out at UCLA, which doesn't mean he won't be successful at BYU but it also doesn't mean he is great (despite the offers). You do know that occasionally people miss on prospects don't you?

That is great Utah will not come close to touching any of those 5 except maybe the alcoholic Gillespie but even then he may not come because of the 3.2% beer.

Sorry Ute fans but your expectations are way to high. Stick with Kerry Rupp or Randy Rahe because that is as good as you are going to get. Utah is not a premier job it never has been and never will be. The only good news is that you are going to an inferior conference than the MWC so you may actually be able to finish in the top half one in awhile.
