Majerus didn't have that great of a track record with the high end recruits he did sign. Outside of Britton, David Jackson and Ashante Johnson were probably the highest rated guys he signed and neither one developed.

Man, dastrup can't jump. Not sure how he turns out but the kid can't even standing dunk when right under the basket against kids 4-5 inches shorter than him. Looks like a good passer, good decision maker, decent post game, seems to have a nose for rebounds, and not athletic at all.Originally posted by Surfah View PostWe should have offered earlier. Keep a close eye on Lehi over the next few years. They have a freshman Frank Jackson that is going to be a big time star.
He is 5'10 starts on the Varsity and recently scored 30 points against Lone Peak. In fact Nick Emery was guarding him the entire game and had trouble staying with him. Jackson has one of the quickest first steps I have seen. He averaged 10 points per game this year as a 14 year old. I also know that BYU has already shown some interest in him.
Lehi also has 3 eighth graders that will play Varsity next year.

I'm always happy to hear about instate talent that isn't: 1) an offspring of a former BYU player; 2) otherwise related to a former BYU player; or, 3) playing for BYU-Alpine. It at least means the Utes have an outside shot.Originally posted by cougjunkie View PostKeep a close eye on Lehi over the next few years. Interview with Mika and clips of his amazing and creative dunks that have earned him recognition as one of the best dunkers in Utah HS hoops history. So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

Nice. He really gets up there. I sure hope he keeps his knees healthy.
Any defensive highlights available? I'm excited about him playing next year in Brandon's place but I'm curious if he has shown more of an ability to defend than say...a current player on BYU's roster of similar length."Either evolution or intelligent design can account for the athlete, but neither can account for the sports fan." - Robert Brault

I have been going back and forth with a buddy of mine about basketball recruiting recently. He is a die hard Ute fan and all over Parker Van Dykes tip. I have told him I like him and I think he will be a solid player. He is trying to get me to admit that he is as good as the kids from LP. I have watched both play and I don't see it. Van Dyke is probably similar to Jake Toolson who we picked up earlier in the month. He is not on the same level as Emery or Haws (Mika is on a different planet). He sends me this link today to that other site as proof that a lot people think Van Dyke is better with this quote:
Nobody that follows high school sports closely think Van Dyke is better than the LP crew other than maybe his parents and even they probably have their doubts. Ute fans should be happy with the kids they have landed they are a good fit and will do really well on a sub .500 Pac-12 team.I believe it was two utes who was heaping praise on PVD a year ago. We'll see if this bears out, but I know some people who follow HS sports closely who would pick PVD over the Lone Peak crew going to BYU
Of course the comparison always comes back to BYU, we are talking about the number 1 team in the country with 3 high major prospects and trying to compare that to an unranked guard with 1 offer.*Banned*

3 point shooting -- the great equalizer.Originally posted by cougjunkie View PostSpeaking of recruits Orem High (defending state champs and only instate team to beat LP last year) who was 27-2 on the year and stars Dalton Nixon a 2014 BYU commit was just upset by 13-13 Logan.

Tell your friend to register here so I can tell him he's an idiot if he think PVD is better than any of the LP kids. It's not even close no matter what metric you're using. Even the eyeball test fails. Especially when you consider the competition that the LP kids have played.Originally posted by cougjunkie View PostI have been going back and forth with a buddy of mine about basketball recruiting recently. Orem hasn't been the same since Darger went down. Yeah, they were winning their games but they have been squeaking by with close games for the last month. It's still a surprise to see them out in the first round.Originally posted by cougjunkie View PostSpeaking of recruits Orem High (defending state champs and only instate team to beat LP last year) who was 27-2 on the year and stars Dalton Nixon a 2014 BYU commit was just upset by 13-13 Logan.

Agree. Darger is very good. He's about 6'5 and played the 5 for them, and seriously is about as good a high school 5 as you will ever see. So smooth. They were just a little soft inside without him, plus their starting 5 all could kill you, but there was a HUGE drop off to their bench. So without him, they had four stars but had to put someone on the floor that you could take advantage of. I still think they were the best 4A team in the state even without him.Originally posted by wapiti View PostOrem hasn't been the same since Darger went down. When did he go down? The box score shows that he did play today (could be inaccurate). They have won 10 in a row with 9 of them by double digits. The only close game was a 6 point win over Timpview who actually beat them earlier in the year. I have not seen many close games out of them this year.Originally posted by jay santos View PostAgree.
