There is some conclusion to be drawn from this. Not sure what. How stark would the numbers be if you had said white/mormon. No wonder we hope God is helping our teams, the talent goes elsewhere.

Wow. Mika shot up the rankings. #30 now. Emery and Haws both moved up. I think Dastrup stayed the same. And look who else cracked the top 60, Brekkott Chapman.

If some how the Cougars land Dastrup, Chapman, Toolson along with Haws and Nixon that will be an insane class. That might be top 10 in the country.

Also looks like Connor Toolson now listed on ESPN's recruit sheet.

          • Eric Mika (Highland, Utah/Lone Peak)
            Old Rank: No. 76
            New Rank: No. 30
            Signed with BYU

This athletic big man possesses mobility you just don't normally see at his size. In transition he runs rim to rim and knows to look for the ball over his shoulder when beating his opponent down the floor. With his back to the basket in the paint, he works to create angles to the rim or maintain post position. Once he receives the ball, he slows down, checks for cutters and defenders, and then will utilize a jump hook or pump fake to score. He also owns a face-up jumper with a clean stroke from the high post or corner and he makes his free throws. On the defensive end, he plays to prevent his man from scoring first while also looking to give help to his teammates with his size and shot-blocking abilities. Mika plays with a purpose, and if he continues to improve, we will hear his name frequently at the college level.

              • Here are the other comments if anyone cares:

                Strengths:
When you watch Emery you are immediately drawn to his affinity for playing the game. There's an intensity and confidence in his approach. On the court, he's a fearless shot maker who wants to get to the rim but doesn't mind taking a licking and getting to the line. He's not fast, he's crafty and determined. Off the dribble he wills himself into the lane. Behind the line, he'll pull it from NBA range if his defender sloughs off. Excellent 3-point shooter. At best he's a combo guard. In a multi-guard front, he may have the ball in his hands.
                Weaknesses:
There will be defensive questions. He doesn't lack effort, he's just not overly quick. His ballhandling, especially versus moderate pressure, stands to improve. If he's to be the primary ballhandler, this area needs to be addressed. Also, he tends to be liberal in his decision making with the ball so valuing the basketball is key. Developing a float game or mid-range game would be helpful.
                Bottom Line:
He's had a front row seat for the Jimmer Fredette show and he sure tries to emulate the BYU star. The kid is fun to watch and there's an air of showmanship to go along with his on the court success. He shines without having to shine the spotlight on himself. This young man will pop up on Top 100 lists. While he won't ace the look test, he'll score extra credit on the play test.
                Strengths:
Haws is a long and lean wing that is very productive and competes on both ends of the floor. He has a excellent mid range game. He knocks down mid range jumpers off the catch or dribble and is a very underrated driver/slasher. Haws can also can hit the open 3 most of the catch from kick outs or sprinting the outside lane on the break. Haws does not shy away from contact and plays fearless and aggressive. Defensively Haws competes and really makes his opponent work.
                Weaknesses:
Haws will need to add strength and he also could be more of a factor on the glass given he tough and competitive approach to the game. Haws already has a pretty complete package but will need to continue to improve to take his game to the next level.
                Bottom Line:
Haws is tough and skilled wing that can score off the catch to the arc and from the mid range areas. He must add strength and continue to progress but his upside is tremendous.
And Dastrup since I think Rose gets him:

                Strengths:
Dastrup has broad shoulders, nice length, and solid feet. He is a blue-collar 5-man with good hands and has a knack for snatching rebounds in traffic. He can step out and hit shots from the 3-point stripe, but is much more potent in the mid-range area. As mentioned above his forte is rebounding and playing assertive through contact. Overall, he is a rim-level player, but with momentum (off a pick and roll) he can throw it down in traffic with authority.
                Weaknesses:
Dastrup is a good, not great athlete, but he does have good feet. His post skills are improving, but he needs to get better converting over and around defenders utilizing a go-to move (jump hook) or counter move (up-and-under with the left hand).
                Bottom Line:
Dastrup has a nice upside and reminds some of a young Nick Collison. Look for him to be a high major priority for the next level.

I have seen Nixon play twice this year and was not impressed either time. In the last game he had 4 points. Might have pulled the trigger a little too soon on that one.

Nixon has performed very well going up against current BYU players, and other BYU commits/recruits. I think that got him offer as much or more than anything he's done playing with his high school team.

Nixon and Chapman are close. They play AAU together and plan to play again this summer together. Both have talked about playing college together. I think Nixon is a fine BYU recruit, even better if we get Brekkott out of it.

He passes the eye test IMO. I have a lot more confidence in Nixon than I ever did in fellow Orem High recruits Harward and Cusik.

I've seen Nixon play about the same. He's got pretty decent size for what he does. Legit 6'6/6'7. Very pretty outside shooting touch. A little soft inside, but he's still a junior in high school. His frame has some muscle and I expect him to be much more solid by the time he plays at BYU. I'm very curious to see how he does at the next level. I could see him as good as a Lee Cummard, potentially. But I could also see him like more of a Shane Knight.
