During the Ainge years, Wyoming and Hawaii both tried extreme stall tactics and BYU beat both of them with the final score in the 30s.

You are joking, right?Originally posted by San Juan Sun View PostFirst time I've watched Mika play. Physically he reminds me of Nate Austin, similar body type. Nope, similar height, similar build. Even similar haircuts."There is no creature more arrogant than a self-righteous libertarian on the web, am I right? Those folks are just intolerable."

I can see what he's saying - just standing there, not moving, sure. Mika's listed at 6-9, 220; Austin's listed at 6-11, 230. But if they were to start moving, all resemblance ceases. If we disagree on something, it's because you're wrong.

Brightons coach should be embarrassed for using that tactic. Not only did it not work, but you just told your team that they had no chance so lets go ahead and not get blown out (which still happened.Originally posted by SoCalCoug View PostI can see what he's saying - just standing there, not moving, sure. Brandon Miller a ute signee is absolute garbage, the fact that Brighton has a Pac-12 commit and still felt the need to hold the ball tells me all I need to know about him. Nick Emery locked him down and he was clearly frustrated throughout the entire game. I not sure he made a single shot from the floor. Everything came from the foul line.
Mika is a physical presence and his physique is much better than Nate Austins. The kid guarding him from Brighton was 6'5 and Mika made him look about 5'10. He is a big man that plays like a big man. He knows his role and loves to bang and play around the basket. I think he will be a solid player as a true freshman next year.*Banned*

State semifinal and Brighton's coach decides not to play basketball. Decides not to compete. Poor sportsmanship, screws fans who made the trip and took the time to go; cowardly. It's the effing semifinal and that guy doesn't want to play the game. Embarrassed at the least, should probably be fired for pulling that shit.Originally posted by cougjunkie View PostBrightons coach should be embarrassed for using that tactic. Stop it. This happens quite often in HS games and I'm surprised teams haven't tried it more against Lone Peak.Originally posted by smokymountainrain View PostState semifinal and Brighton's coach decides not to play basketball. Brighton hoped for a 2 to end the quarter and a 2 to end the half which would have put the game at 14-11 which is closer than anybody in Utah this year.
I think the biggest shocker is the kid going to Utah, I'm surprised the coach didn't tell the kid, go for 40 as he's the only chance they had.

That's fair. However, I guess I'm seeing from my perspective of how I thought when I played HS ball. I would have killed for the opportunity to go against Haws and Emery and the #1 ranked team in the country and while we might have lost I would have tried to score 30 in the process. For my coach to take the ball out of my hands and tell me to stand around for most of the first half in the state semi's against a team like that- well, I would have told him to go fuck himself and jacked up as many shots as I possibly could until he pulled me from game and sent me to the locker room. I can't imagine, as a player, standing around and simply not competing. But perhaps you're right, that from a strategic standpoint, it may have been their best chance to win. It just doesn't sit right with me. Bottom line, the UHSAA needs to implement a shot clock.Originally posted by fusnik View PostStop it. LP allowed Brighton to do the stall. The 5-second "closely guarded" rule is called very tightly at the HS level in Utah. Given their ability to play pressure defense, they could have easily countered that strategy. From the post-game comments, I am guessing that the LP coach purposefully allowed it to happen just to make things interesting."There is no creature more arrogant than a self-righteous libertarian on the web, am I right?
