      • It's like the cool new thing to say BYU is buying success. I say good, embrace it, that's our best shot at being elite. Time for a new t-shirt. Something like BYU Hoops: you can buy anything in this world with money.

It's also too scary for BYU detractors to think it's also because of a coaching staff that has a track record of getting players ready for the NBA. Just say it's the money. Much easier to stomach that thought.

True. There are several schools that can pay well, so in the end, KY is selling himself and his staff as the reason to choose BYU and so far it seems people are buying it. But that coaching staff is getting PAID so in the end it's still true to say none of this is happening without backing up the money truck. I'm at peace with that, especially since BYU has been a notorious cheapskate for most (all?) of my life.

I am really interested in how the next few years develop for BYU hoops. I loved Mark Pope and felt he was just starting to hit his stride at BYU and I was really enjoying where I thought he was taking BYU-but holy shit this recruiting is just another level that I had no vision could happen.

How this develops into a long term plan and blueprint will be enormously interesting. Watching how KY molds his roster will be interesting-how many LDS kids will he have 3 years from now? What will be his mixture of one and dones versus developmental type players. Will he deliver with enough one and dones into the NBA to keep this type of high yield, 2 in this recruiting class, going? Will he want more than 2 one and dones types if he can nab more? How will the fanbase/decision makers react to a smaller percentage of the team being LDS? What happens when something embarrassing happens? This type of money would not be spent, IMO, without at least some type of discussion about these and other what if's, so my belief until convinced otherwise is BYU is in this for the long haul. I really hope the President stays healthy and in place for a decade-if this new model is successful I don't expect his successor to attempt to tear it down after that much time & money invested.

It is going to be interesting and historical IMO.

I'm choosing to mostly ignore your fatuity here and instead overwhelm you with so much data that you'll maybe, just maybe, realize that you have reams to read on this subject before you can contribute meaningfully to any conversation on this topic.

Shane Reese is young and healthy. And a huge sports fan.

What I find interesting is the sense among many that recruiting would be the hardest thing for a coach that was essentially an NBA lifer to get going. Obviously with the money, it made recruiting a lot easier, but I find it hard to believe that the recruiting success is solely because Ryan Smith bought the program a Brinks Truck. It bodes well for when we get to see KY in his strongest element, actual coaching.

                      • FYI, you are all welcome. I'm pretty sure the final death of Utah basketball and the rise of BYU basketball is the price that I am having to pay for the Connor Bedard era in Chicago.

While this sucks, the multiple Stanley Cups that Connor Bedard will bring to the Blackhawks will be worth it.

                          • BYU now with the #12 ranked class. And that doesn't include Egor ranking yet.

Woah woah woah. Slow down and let SU crunch these recruiting numbers before we celebrate.

Some ute fans are committing seppuku while others (like SU) are in denial. Good times.
