    Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

Does any school benefit more from NIL and the portal? Let’s be honest, there isn’t a weirder school that fields teams in D1 sports. They’ve always had to rely on Mormons or diamonds in the rough willing to put up with 3-4 years of strangeness. Now, you don’t like the honor code? Who cares you’re making $800k. Mormons annoy you? Who cares you can dip in a year if it sucks. A BYU that’s smart enough to invest in a legitimate coach and staff has essentially found a way to erase their biggest hindrance.

I hope this portends some good news in the near future, because it seems we've had more losses than gains in the portal this past month. Overall, I think you are spot on about NIL and the portal allowing some kids to take a taste of BYU without having to be tied up for four years. I've been impressed that KY has brought in two 4-star high school kids in the short time since his arrival. When was that last time that happened? As noted, hopefully he can follow that up with some good portal wins.

not to mention that byu should punch above its weight given the disproportionate number of interested wealthy nil benefactors like ryan smith, other utah county tech dudes and finance folks running around with at least a couple hundred million in their pockets.

What's the housing situation for athletes pulling high six figures? Are these guys still required to live in approved housing or are they renting nice homes or even buying? I'd imagine having your own place would make BYU much more tolerable for an outsider.

It sounds like Chaz Lanier chose Tennessee. Bummer but there is one kind of funny thing about it. Apparently Kentucky has put the word out that Chaz and Pope mutually decided Kentucky wasn't a good fit for Chaz. I'm going to go ahead and guess that half that statement is not quite true.

From BYU on housing requirements. Don't know if the Athletic Department has different rules.

For their first two semesters as a BYU student, all single, undergraduate students must live (1) in BYU On-Campus Housing, (2) in BYU Off-Campus Contracted Housing, or (3) with qualifying family members. This applies to all single, undergraduate students, including transfer students, who are matriculated, meaning they have been admitted to a BYU degree-seeking program. Any exception must be approved in writing by the BYU Off-Campus Housing Office. Completion of both spring and summer academic terms qualifies as one semester.

Yeah, that didn't pan out. Those were the years when Lone Peak HS (Nick, Mika, and TJ) was ranked #1 in the country. Everyone was very big on those three recruiting wise. Of the three, I think TJ had the better college career. Mika did okay, but left school too early. Nick was pretty much a dud, although he got into Krysco's head, so that was worth it.

Yeah, Nick was a dud. So was Payton Dastrup.

Yeah, he was. But we all got excited when he chose BYU over The OSU. Didn't he end up transfering to the other OSU?

I think Nick's top 50 was overrated, but out of HS he should have been fairly highly rated. He was good and showed definite potential as a FR. He definitely had the ability to play the game at a high level IMO, he just didn't have the character neccesary to get there. He married an idiot in his first marriage and my instinct is they were likely pretty equally yoked.

On Payton Dastrup -I try to be skeptical of big man ratings. I think projecting bigs is much harder to do than perimeter players.

Don't get me wrong. I liked Payton Dastrup. He seemed like a genuinely great dude and I enjoyed his personality. Just didn't have the talent we expected.

Yeah, I think he transferred to Oregon State but didn't amount to much there either.

Yes, he was a great cheerleader and did seem like a good guy.

I was sad he didn't work out.
